As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the store Associate provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Operates computerized cash register and electronic scale in store not limit to weigh, wrap, itemize, and total customer’s purchases. May take orders face to face or by telephone. Prepares food for hot and cold cases. May slices and wraps product for special order or to fill the case based on the department. Prepares fruit or seasonal trays for display or special order. May replenish items in the area of the department. Checks and maintains appropriate level of supplies in the area. May retrieve product from storage area and stock freezer, cooler, or storage room as appropriate. May Washes dishes, pots, pans depends on the area. Sweeps and mops floors as needed. Cleans interior of display cases. Changes oil and filter in deep fryer and sanitizes food preparation equipment as necessary in some departments.

JOB DUTIES:

Safeway store associates are generally responsible for completing the following job duties based on the departments:

1. Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.

2. Prepare hot and cold food and drink to customer.

3. Operate food preparation equipment.

4. Use scales and volume measures to apportion product correctly.

5. Total bill, count payment, and make change.

6. Take orders over telephone or in person.

7. Inventory stock, restock, and face shelves of cases on sales floor.

8. Sanitation of the area you are working in.

9. Performs temperature and tare checks daily.

10. Other duties as assigned.

JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.

2. Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.

3. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

4. Ability to multi-task and work in fast paced environment.
