Overview:
The Resource Protection Specialist shall support the Resource Protection Program by safeguarding NASA personnel and property by reducing opportunity for theft, sabotage, terrorism, and workplace violence. This position assists with crime prevention by implementation of a comprehensive resource protection plan, physical security plan, vulnerability and threat assessments, identification and protection of NASA Critical Infrastructure, and the coordination of special events with the NASA Protective Services office. Resource Protection Specialist to join our team!
The Resource Protection Specialist shall support the Resource Protection Program by safeguarding NASA personnel and property by reducing opportunity for theft, sabotage, terrorism, and workplace violence. This position assists with crime prevention by implementation of a comprehensive resource protection plan, physical security plan, vulnerability and threat assessments, identification and protection of NASA Critical Infrastructure, and the coordination of special events with the NASA Protective Services office.
What You'll Get To Do:
Conduct physical security inspections, audits, key audits, and assessments of facilities and areas for the purpose of identifying security weaknesses and vulnerabilities and recommend countermeasures.- Review and analyzes proposed construction design reviews.
- Conduct and review threat and vulnerability analysis and studies.
- Reviews and tests the physical, electronic and IT systems used to control access.
- Evaluate and recommend installation protection needs.
- Provide priority attention and added protection to NASA Critical Infrastructure.
- Develop, support, and evaluate contingency operation exercises.
- Participate and provide subject matter expertise and attends conferences as required.
- Document training for all resource protection staff.
- As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for support in the event of a declared emergency..
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4 years of prior experience with physical security or vulnerability assessments.
- Prior experience with security inspections.
- Must complete the following upon hire:
- Interagency Security Committee (ISC) Risk Management Process Training Program.
- ICS-100.
- IS-700.
- IS-1170
- IS-1171.
- IS-1173
- IS-1174
- Chemicals of Interest (COI) and Chemical Vulnerability Information (CVI).
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of the DHS Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism (CFATS) program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) preferred.
- Knowledge of standard office and administrative practices and procedures including business letter writing, records management, report preparation, and filing methods, correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, modern office methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to provide varied technical and administrative assistance; use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines; organize, coordinate, and prioritize a variety of assignments with varying deadlines; work effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions; handle difficult, confidential, and sensitive assignments; organize and maintain a variety of confidential records, reports, and files.

- The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
- During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
