Job description
We are looking for highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate and Scientist to join our South Bay team to work on viral vaccine programs. This job provides a great opportunity for the candidate to learn and contribute to various aspects of vaccine development. Education
- BSc or MSc degree in Life Sciences with 0-5 years’ experience in academic or industrial setting.
- Ph.D. degree in Virology, Viral Immunology, or Molecular Biology with 0-5 years’ experience in an academic or industrial setting.
Main activities
- Perform virology studies such as virus growth in cell culture and virus quantitation by plaque assay
- Develop and qualify or validate virology and immunology assays (ELISA, cell-based immune assays and intracellular staining by flow cytometry) to support IND filings and clinical sample testing
- Develop processes and protocols for virus production and vaccine virus evaluation for pipeline advancement in the R&D laboratory
- Molecular cloning to produce plasmids and to generate recombinant viruses
- Perform molecular assays such as RT-PCR/RT-qPCR, and sequence analysis
- Maintain tissue culture cell lines and assist with the upkeep of the laboratory with reagent preparation and materials ordering
- Interact with external stakeholders in assay transfer and data analyses
- Must be a team player with strong communication skills, well-organized, detail oriented, good record keeping, and ability to multitask
Preferred Skills
- Mammalian cell culture including cell maintenance and propagation
- Virological techniques including virus propagation, plaque assay, focus assay, and microneutralization assay
- Immunological assays such as ELISA, immunofluorescent staining and flow cytometry
- Molecular biology techniques such as RNA isolation, cDNA cloning, RT-PCR, and qPCR
- Ability to influence, negotiate and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders; capable of embracing the ideas of others and nurturing innovation
- Experience with negative sense RNA viruses is highly desired (for the Scientist position)
