JOB DESCRIPTION:

TheRegistered Nurse Unit Manageris under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, has authority, responsibility, and accountability for the overall management of residents on a designated secured unit on a twenty-four hour basis. The Director of Special Care Unit is responsible for directing, coordinating and supervising the activities of all specialized training of nursing staff engaged in specific nursing practices and is responsible for transmitting each unit’s staff concerns to the appropriate department supervisor. The Director of Special Care Unit is responsible for the overall management of resident care 24 hours a day, seven (7) days per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents (i.e. physical, cognitive, and socialization factors) in planning delivery of care.
• Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to care for residents with the following needs: therapeutic, neuro and dementia, dialysis, IV therapy, TPN, infectious disease and wound care, if applicable.
• Provides nursing care in accordance with Resident Care Policies and Procedures and ensures the safety and well-being of the residents is maintained.
• Attends all mandatory inservices by employee’s anniversary date.
• Maintains current New York State license in compliance with New York State regulations.
• Acts appropriately under the direction of the RN Day Supervisor and acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in units/shift assignments to meet resident and facility needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of current Health Department Regulations.
• Supervises assigned nursing personnel including responsibility for instruction, assignment, direction, performance assessment, discipline and dismissal of these assigned employees. Works cooperatively with other assigned supervisors on the unit to ensure satisfactory work performance of all unit employees.
• Assists in assessing level and number of personnel assigned to the unit. Makes recommendations regarding such personnel for better resident care and utilization of such personnel and completes monthly staffing schedules for the unit.

REQUIREMENTS:

• New York State Registered Professional Nurse licensure
• Experience in long-term care facility preferred
• Able to interpret patient information and make critical decisions about necessary actions
• Ability to supervise and work well with and show respect toward other health care personnel (i.e., CNAs, LPNs, physicians, etc.), residents and their family members
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness and kindness
• Physical endurance for frequent activity; ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
