POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manger, The Recreation Supervisor assists in and performs planning, coordination and supervision of comprehensive recreation programs, events and activities, including planning, scheduling and implementing recreational activities in a specific program area; recruits, coordinates and supervises the activities of regular, temporary and volunteer staff; prepares program budgets and monitors expenditures; administers the rental, scheduling, use and maintenance of major recreation facilities; and performs related work as required.
INTERVIEWS: Interviews are tentatively scheduled for 6/1/23. Interviews will be scheduled through the HR Department.

Recreation
Preschool
- Responsible for overseeing the overall administration and operation of the Fair Oaks Preschool.
- Implement the vision, goals, and policies of the preschool.
- Supervise and evaluate teaching staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum.
- Manage the preschool’s budget, resources, and administrative tasks, such as enrollment, scheduling, and record-keeping.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and relevant laws.
Youth Camps
- Responsible for the overall planning, organization, and execution of summer and specialty camps.
- Supervise and evaluate camp staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with camp staff to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum.
- Manage camp’s budget, resources, and administrative tasks, such as enrollment, scheduling, and record-keeping.
Advisor – Fair Oaks Youth Advisory Board
- Responsible for guiding and educating youth to foster leadership skills while providing programs and events that benefit the residents in the community.
- Manage Fair Oaks Youth Advisory Board budget, resources, and administrative tasks, such as assisting with recruitment, record-keeping, and foundation oversight.
Independent Contracted Classes
- Manage, recruit and onboard enrichment instructors, including familiarizing them with organizational policies, program requirements, and expectations.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with instructors, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and guidelines.
- Conduct regular check-ins and evaluations to assess instructor performance and provide constructive feedback.
Community
- Develops partnerships, contracts, policies, procedures, sponsorships, and recreation initiatives.
- Develops relationships with community partners and stakeholders that promote the success of both the District and the partner, while also respecting local traditions and partner missions.
- Attends local partner meetings and events to promote recreation programs and events, in addition to building strong relationships with partners.
Fiscal
- Develop and assist division budget as it relates to assigned program areas; research and determine program fees.
- Approves contracts for facility use; accepts usage fees and ensures proper accounting of funds.
- Outlines fiscal goals and objectives in the Annual Recreation Plan.
General
- Recruits, assigns, trains, coordinates, and reviews the work of subordinate staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and procedures for the assigned programs and services.
- Collaborates and communicates with various community and volunteer organizations and schools and other agencies to advance programs, services, and events.
- Write, negotiate, and monitor contracts with independent contractors, renters, vendors, including processing invoices and payments; managing applications, insurance, security, permits, etc.
- Provides information for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as determined by supervisor. Prepares various reports and memoranda as required, including billing invoices, time sheets, injury reports, etc.
- Facilitates communication and collaboration between department and community groups, residents, schools, civic organizations, etc.
- Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, standards, rules, and regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature.
- Provides direction to and supervises regular, temporary and volunteer staff, including selecting, monitoring, training, scheduling and determining workloads; assists with hiring.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions and safety equipment related to all work performed.
- Operates a computer to utilize Microsoft Office, event scheduling, or other software programs.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises mostly part time, temporary/seasonal and volunteer staff of the Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District, with the potential to supervise full time staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:

- All applicants must be live scan fingerprinted and pass pre-employment background check, physical examination, and drug screen.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age prior to appointment due to hazards of the job.
- Must possess current certification in First Aid and CPR or must obtain such within six months after employment. Must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a safe driving record.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours based on District needs.
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education, training and/or experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Management, Hospitality Management, Event Management, Public Administration, or closely related field.
- A minimum of one year of directly related and progressively knowledgeable and responsible experience in recreation or leisure services, programming, and/or facility management.
Additional Skills and abilities:
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver’s license, proof of personal vehicle insurance and a satisfactory driving record are required.
Hold a valid Pediatric/Adult CRP, AED, and First Aid Certification. At the option of the appointing authority persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, certifications or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment.
Computer SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite of products. Knowledge of basic office equipment should include internet and email, copy and fax machines, postage meter, telephone and answering machine.

WORK HOURS:
This is a full-time exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week; a core work schedule based on operational needs will be determined.
The District’s established business hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; alternative business/operating hours may be established for a District facility or department on a case-by-case basis to best meet the needs of residents and other customers.
Employee is expected to work the hours necessary to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position, including working and attending meetings outside of established business hours.
