Davion Inc. is one of the largest private label and contract manufacturers of personal care and household cleaning/laundry products in the United States. Davion develops, manufactures, and distributes hundreds of unique product formulations to our clients across North America.
Currently, Davion manufactures and distributes its products through two facilities in New Jersey and one facility in Canada. Our facilities have the capability of manufacturing shampoos, body washes, bubble baths, lotions, creams, nail polish remover, oils, soaps as well as powder products
This is a full-time position that is responsible for directly assisting the Vice President of Product Development and Quality Control
Job Title: R&D Chemist
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop new formulations from scratch and prepare submission bench batches for client approvals based on desired technical and aesthetic attributes.
- Handle projects from start to finish with minimal supervision including - formulation, process development, batching, and stability studies.
- Correspond with raw material suppliers for R&D sample, pricing as well as technical information request.
- Compile and analyze 3rd party test information as needed to report to supervisor.
- Maintain PD/R&D tracker for marketing submissions, product formula evaluation, lab batching schedule, stability, safety testing, etc.
- Maintain accurate inventory of R&D raw materials and order materials as needed.
- Perform stability testing of finished product as needed.
- Prepare technical documents for claim substantiation for managerial review as needed.
- Maintain accurate real-time entries on lab notebooks to ensure accuracy and completeness and associated electronic databases.
- Maintain R&D product stability program with pull dates and submit samples for testing based on stability protocol.
- Work cross-functionally with team in manufacturing plant and warehouse.
- Maintain adherence to cGMP’s (current Good Manufacturing Procedures), GLP’s (Good Laboratory Procedures), and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for the personal care industry.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Attention to detail and analytical thinking, ability to apply general concepts to specific problems to produce positive results is a must.
- Must be able to operate bench Mixers and Homogenizer (Caframo Mixer and/ or Silverson Homogenizer)
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision on multiple complex projects.

- Must be familiar with laboratory equipment used in the process of creating bench batches.
- Has basic working knowledge and understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of personal care products
- Strong mathematical aptitude.
- Professional written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literate in Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
Education and Training:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in the Science/Engineering.
- Minimum 3-4 years of formulation experience. Must have formulated products from scratch (skincare, hair-care, color cosmetics, cosmetics & OTC).
- Must have a robust knowledge of basic ingredient interaction and should be able to develop lab scale process.
Physical Demands:
While performing duties of the job, employee is occasionally required to stand (for extended periods), stoop, bend, walk and use hands to handle objects, tools, and controls, reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee will be required to handle chemicals and solvents as required during course of job execution. Employee may be required to move or lift objects up to 25 lbs. Employee will be required to wear appropriate safety gear.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
