Basic Job Functions:
A multifaceted engineer that will provide technical leadership in the d esign, development and implementation of scribing process equipment using the newest laser and optics technologies . Closely work with development engineering and vendors to create robust scribing equipment and processes for a high-speed manufacturing environment. Implement new processes to meet schedule as well as lead troubleshooting efforts to meet project requirements. Oversee equipment design, acquisition, fabrication, installation, start-up, and transition into production for new or existing plants. This included defining requirements, evaluating proposed solutions, assessing mechanical and controls system design, devising process experiments and testing. Additional responsibilities include schedule, budget, and vendor management of scribing equipment to be replicated under the First Solar Copy Smart Philosophy.
Education/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred (or equivalent experience).
- 5 or more years of hands-on experience in developing equipment that uses laser systems for scribing thin films on modules.
- 5 or more years’ experience of leading large capital equipment project with defining scope, project structure, budgets, team member delegation, risk assessment and mitigation, and tracking actions ensuring to meet the project goals.
- 5 or more years’ experience of leading cross functional teams domestically and internationally to achieve the project goals on timing and budget.
- 5 or more years’ experience with equipment procurement through installation and production and/or vendor experience from receipt of order through build, site install and production ramp.
- Fundamental understanding of laser sources, optics, and motion systems.
- Understands interactions between laser-types and material characteristics for the purpose of selecting the best laser type that will meet specific film ablation requirements.
- Full life-cycle experience of laser and metrology inspection tools (concept, qualification and production release).
- Experience with implementation of scribing process for monolithic integration of thin film modules.
- Proven experience leading large dollar capital equipment projects for both new plant and existing plants.
- Experience with fully automated production equipment, to include material handling - Servo motor controls, PLC's and precision alignment equipment is a an advantage.
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Competent with Microsoft Office suite of Applications.
- Able to evaluate and create capital, operation, and valuation calculation.
- Practical knowledge of standard project management practice, (PMP) is preferred.
- Ability to read Engineering Drawings, Electrical and Mechanical is preferred.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Setups, maintains, and executes the cost & schedule management process to ensure meeting project timeline and budget.
- Communicates clearly, oral and written, across the organization.
- Partners with stakeholders to coordinate resources, activities, and priorities for rapid project completion.
- Maintains status of program (including risk assessment, action items, issues, delivery milestones, etc.) in a current state and proactively acts on any items as required.
- Leads program meetings with cross functional team members on a regular basis to review program status, plan future actions, and report to the team.
- Identifies program risks and lead cross functional team effort to mitigate challenges.
- Maintains effective communications levels and fosters Team Building.
- Is responsible for overseeing the entire process of replicating equipment into factory expansions.
- Manages critical timelines and schedules while constantly working to improve lead times.
- Forecasts, manages, and executes capital equipment budgets.
- Manages equipment configuration, Copy Smart as well as Equipment regulatory compliance.
- Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.

Reporting Relationships:
- This position reports to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering and High-Speed Replication.
Travel:
- Travel Requirement (domestic & international, as required) up to 30%.
Estimated Salary Range:
- Estimated Salary Range $80,000-$95,000 annually.
US Physical Requirements:
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
- Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
- Will exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a seldom basis.
- Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis.
- 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required.
- Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
- May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
- All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition.
