What You'll Be Doing in the role of Program Manager
The Program Manager, Community Education & Outreach serves as a subject matter expert in the delivery of education programs with a focus on initiatives embedded in Stand for H.E.R. – a Health Equity Revolution, Komen’s bold program to decrease breast cancer disparities through focused interventions that break down the barriers that created inequities for Black people.
The Program Manager will support designing, developing, and deploying culturally competent breast health and breast cancer education programs for diverse populations to empower the public with education, encourage people to take an active role in their breast health, and promote the availability of Komen resources including the Patient Care Center.
What You Will Bring to the Table
The primary objective of the Program Manager, Community Education and Outreach is to support Susan G. Komen in achieving our overall Vision and Mission by:
Supporting the design, development and deployment of various Komen Community Education initiatives for the breast cancer community, which may include Worship in Pink, the MBC Impact series, and other initiatives.
Working collaboratively across the organization to integrate topics of interest with Komen’s Community Education initiatives; examples may include clinical trials and genetic testing.
Planning, coordinating, and facilitating the development of trainings related to breast health and breast cancer content, including the design and development of curriculum and support materials.
Identifying community partners for collaboration on the development and dissemination of educational programs to maximize effectiveness and outreach of educational programs to Black audiences.
Ensuring that Komen’s Community Education Initiatives are culturally responsive and resonate with the Black community and other communities disproportionately affected by breast cancer.
With the Manager, Community Education & Outreach and the Marketing team, develop a culturally responsive plan to increase participation in Komen Community Education Initiatives and strategies to nurture and retain existing participants for continued involvement and activation.
In partnership with the Evaluation & Outcomes team, continually monitor the program and feedback from participants to ensure topics and program design remain responsive to changing needs and developments.
Maintaining knowledge of existing, traditional, and trending cultural approaches to health education.
Developing and delivering presentations, speeches and workshops for stakeholders, funders, conferences and Komen events as needed.
Supporting special projects that relate to community education and outreach activities and/or other mission related activities.
Supporting development teams on donor stewardship.
All other duties as assigned.
We Already Know You Will Also Have
5 to 7 years’ experience in a health education or health related field.
Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design and development of evidence-based public health curricula and training materials targeted to diverse audiences.
Experience as a public speaker and ability to effectively communicate both orally and through written materials.
Comfortable cold-calling organizations.
Problem-solving and prioritization skills.
Intermediate-level knowledge of breast health/breast cancer issues and information.
Demonstrated cultural competency in developing community health, community outreach, and educational programs for communities of color and other communities that experience breast cancer disparities.
Work Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience required to effectively perform the job’s responsibilities.
Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree: (Health Education, Social Work, Public Health).
Preferred experience includes:
MPH, MS or MA in health education, health communications, public health, or a related health field.
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
Experience implementing public health programming in faith-based settings.
Describe travel requirements. This position requires willingness and ability to travel between 10% - 20% of the time locally and / or out of town.
