ABOUT THE ROLE:
AIDB Special Projects Department is AIDB's collaborative effort to invest additional time and funding with federal partners in order to support the mission of AIDB: To provide comprehensive education and service programs of superior quality to children with sensory differences and their families. It is our goal to expand services beyond our campus programs and even beyond our state borders.
Special Projects consist of Gallaudet University Regional Center- South, Special Education Coordination, The NTID Regional STEM Center at AIDB, The APH Center for Assistive Technology Training, The Gallaudet University Regional Early Acquisition of Language Project, and the Joe Tom Armbrester Agricultural Education Program.
Special Projects utilizes various technologies and networks to satisfy the collaborative needs of each department in order to achieve the overall mission.
This position will play a vital role in the development and management of the Special Projects’ warehouse and in the area of shipping and receiving. The Program Logistics Technician will be responsible for physical control of all stock items as this relates to warehousing, external shipping, and internal movement. This candidate must have the capability to work in an environment with minimal direct supervision. As a member of Special Projects, this candidate must possess the ability to maintain good work relations with coworkers. You will coordinate receipt and delivery of UPS, FedEx and other common carrier packages throughout Special Projects. You will coordinate daily pick up of Postal and delivery of Special Projects parcels. The office for this position will be based in Talladega, Alabama. You will be required to travel in Alabama (between our locations).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
:
- Create spreadsheets performing calculations to determine shipping cost, fuel usage, and other logistics-related data.
- Design and maintain a logistics system for Special Projects.
- Set up a shipping and strategy structure for future growth.
- Position will hire and supervise within six months.
- Communicating with customers to clarify shipment details or resolve issues with deliveries.
- Responsible for the accuracy of all information and data related to Special Projects shipping activities across the country.
- Mange warehouse equipment through periodic visual inspections and feedback from warehouse personnel. Request maintenance and/or equipment upgrades as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum Five (5) years of shipping and receiving experience in a warehouse environment.
- Experience in driving mid-sized trucks or vans and operating forklifts.
- Must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License and able to be insured by AIDB insurance carrier by maintaining a good driving record.
- Must be insurable under AIDB fleet policy.
- Must pass AIDB drug screening process
- Must be physically capable of lifting, moving, carrying, and handling numerous boxes weighing up to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
- Experience in computerized inventory control and warehousing with the ability to organize and coordinate the physical control of all inventory items.
- Must have good communication skills.
- May be required to attend conferences, in-service training and other functions.
- Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training Class and successfully pass with a 90% to AIB Sensitivity Assessment within the first six (6) months of employment.
- A sign language proficiency level of Survival according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment. INTERMEDIATE must be obtained within the first twenty-four (24 months of employment.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB
