The Process Engineer provides technical process expertise and services focused on enhancing the safety, reliability, and profitability of specific process units and the refinery. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, health/safety/environmental, business planning, capital projects along with pertinent outside resources. This position resides within the Technical Services Department.

Responsibilities May Include

Provide technical expertise to support process units for a particular area of the refinery to enable optimum performance and meet daily, monthly, annual and multi-year operating objectives

Provide technical reports to management on unit performance, troubleshooting, and other opportunities

Perform routine engineering calculations (i.e. piping hydraulics, PSV sizing, process simulations, sizing/rating equipment, mass and energy balances)

Monitor unit operating data and product analyses, provide recommendations to achieve desired targets. Communicate constraints and issues to plant management with technical recommendations

Assist Operations with evaluation of unit operations and troubleshooting performance

Manages and reports on performance of unit catalysts, predicting end of life and making technical recommendations for procurement

Initiates proactive recommendations for improving unit yields, catalyst and chemical consumption, energy consumption

Key owner and maintainer of Process Safety Information (PSI). Maintains unit monitoring Safety and Reliability Operating Limits. Documents changes to PSI through Management of Change (MOC’s) process while conducting process safety evaluations.

Participating in, and provide support for, PHA and LOPA processes

Initiates and develops process design for new projects to address safety, environmental, reliability, or economic opportunities for the process units

Supports turnaround activities by identifying and developing scope, planning equipment preparation for maintenance, equipment inspections, assist with catalyst loading and making necessary recommendations for repairs and improvements

Participate in peer knowledge sharing networks with other engineering disciplines at site and process engineers across Company

Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering

1 or more years of experience in a chemical, petrochemical, refinery or other plant environment

Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

Basic knowledge of facility/process design including engineering and process safety management (PSM)

Must perform job duties safely and champion the safety of others

Possess a valid driver’s license

Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found athttps://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:

+ Ability to work overtime (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)

+ Ability to lift 25 pounds

+ Ability to climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height

+ Ability to work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

+ Ability to work around chemicals, including acids and bases

+ Ability to wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toeshoes, ear/eye protection)

+ Ability to maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly

+ Ability to be on-call

+ Ability to work outside in harsh weather conditions

+ Ability to work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat

+ Ability to lift, climb, walk, kneel, and squat on a regular basis

+ Ability to read technical procedures, materials and drawings in English

Preferred Qualifications:
5 or more years of experience in a chemical, petrochemical or refinery plant environment

3 or more years of experience in process engineering, energy or optimization

Possess a strong desire to learn, strengthen and build skills, and keep up with process technology and industry standards and codes

Strong computer skills

Experience with troubleshooting and resolving process problems

Strong analytical skills including statistical analysis

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment

Accepts ownership, is accountable, and delivers on commitments

Ability to work in cross-functional teams

Strong commitment to safe work practices

The Bayway Refinery is located on the New York Harbor in Linden, New Jersey. Bayway's facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, solvent deasphalting, hydrodesulfurization and alkylation units. The complex also includes a polypropylene plant with the capacity to produce up to 775 million pounds per year. The refinery processes mainly light and medium, low-sulfur crude oil. Foreign crude oil is supplied to the refinery by tanker, and domestic crude oil is supplied through a combination of rail and marine transportation. Within the refinery, Phillips 66 Partners has a rail receiving facility with 75,000 BPD of offloading capacity. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petrochemical feedstocks, residual fuel oil and home heating oil. Refined products are distributed to East Coast customers by pipeline, barge, rail car and truck.
