Summary:
The President, Summa Health System Hospitals will lead and coordinate operational activities, programs and financial performance relative to day-to-day hospital operations through the delivery of cost-effective and high-quality services. This role is accountable for financial and operational success of the hospital entity, including both Akron and Barberton campuses. Collaborates extensively with the health system’s Chief Nurse Executive and Chief Quality Officer, as well as with clinical operations leaders of surgery, emergency department, behavioral health and clinical service lines. Provides direct leadership for Shared Services (Pharmacy, Respiratory, Lab, Radiology), Support Services (EVS, Transport, Food/Nutrition, Parking) and Hospital-Based Clinics.

The President will be responsible for building effective partnerships and promoting collaborative relationships, including medical staff and community engagement. The President is the regulatory leader of the hospital entity and assures implementation of system-wide and local initiatives and policies. Assists in the development and implementation of a framework that integrates physicians into decision-making, strategic planning and operational performance improvement. This role owns contractual relationships with key hospital-based provider groups (Hospitalists, Emergency, Pathology, Radiology) and ensures all coverage requirements are met for appropriate accreditations and licensure. Leads monthly operating reviews and resource allocation requests (business plans, capital, labor, etc.) through system processes. Develops and executes an annual management plan to define operating goals, key initiatives and implementation plans to align the entity with system goals and priorities.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Providers, the President plays a key leadership role in provider operations. It is critical that the President engages across the health system to drive/support population health initiatives and outcomes. Positioning the system’s hospital capacity for the future of healthcare delivery is a top priority, including a focus on value-based care and partnerships with other regional population-health-focused independent providers and disruptors.

Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor’s degree required
b. Master's degree required in Business or Healthcare Administration required

Experience and Training Required:
a. The preferred candidate will be a highly qualified executive whose experience includes accomplishing strategic and operational change in a complex environment while maintaining integrity, being flexible, approachable and goal oriented.
b. Ten years progressive healthcare leadership experience including initiating key projects, allocating resources and achieving results.
c. Results oriented, with the ability to translate strategy into action.
d. Extensive experience collaborating with and motivating diverse groups at all levels of the health care system, including physicians, employees, local and regional leadership.
e. Demonstrated success in growth, operations improvement, expense management initiatives and provider/employee/patient engagement.

Other Requirements:
a. Performance driven focus with experience in using metrics and real time data to realize expected outcomes.
b. Population Specific Competency – Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
