Preschool Teacher (half day) Job at Windham Southwest Supervisory Union
The Stamford School, serving the preK-grade 8 students of Stamford, Vermont, is seeking a creative, organized, energetic, enthusiastic and innovative teacher to play a pivotal role in developing a dynamic, student-centered, preschool program as the Lead Teacher of our half-day preschool program (0.5 FTE).Our small school is located on the Massachusetts border about 15 minutes from North Adams, Massachusetts and about 30 minutes from Bennington, Vermont, and in the upcoming school year will have 6 (preK, Kindergarten, grades 1 & 2, grades 3 & 4, grades 5& 6, and grades 7 & 8) of 11-16 students per class. For several years we have had a combined preK/Kindergarten classroom, but we are reimagining our early education model, and will be separating preschool (3-5 year olds) from Kindergarten (ages 5+) beginning with the upcoming school year. As we begin to re-envision how to best meet the diverse needs of our youngest learners, this is an incredible opportunity for the right teacher to help shape that vision. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience working in a preschool environment, balancing the need for movement, creativity and play-based learning with the importance of kindergarten readiness.
This teacher will work with school staff and families to provide our youngest learners a safe and nurturing environment with varied experiences to help them to develop socially, intellectually and emotionally. The preschool teacher will demonstrate an understanding of the Vermont Early Learning Standards, and early childhood MTSSThis teacher should be caring, innovative, student-centered, and open to engaging students in creative, experiential, project-based learning opportunities and the integration of technology. This teacher will also be willing to join the principal and primary teachers (grades K-2) to engage in exploring current research and in learning about best practices in early childhood education in order to develop an aligned early childhood program worthy of our incredible learners.Responsibilities include all typical teacher job responsibilities, including: * creating a warm, positive classroom environment that promotes ideals of equity and inclusivity, and celebrates diversity* getting to know our amazing students on an individual level by forming positive personal connections as well as through reviewing student data and work samples;* using the teachers knowledge and understanding of the grade level content and vast repertoire of pedagogical approaches to plan and design dynamic learning experiences that incorporate early childhood learning standards, students readiness and learning styles;* utilizing a variety of formal and informal assessment techniques to monitor student learning against standards as well as monitoring individual student progress to ensure that every student, regardless of background or place on the learning continuum, grows every day, in every way;* providing targeted interventions to support students in academic, behavioral, or social-emotional domains where the teachers observations and data demonstrate student need;* encouraging students to become invested in their learning by providing high-interest learning activities, and targeted opportunities for student choice/voice in determining what they learn, how they learn, or how they demonstrate their learning;* fostering positive communication channels with students and their families;* maintaining accurate records of: student attendance; student needs, interventions, progress and achievement; student participation, engagement and investment.In short, we seek a teaching superhero who is excited and enthusiastic about learning, and who can inculcate our students with that same passion for learning, self-motivation and confidence so they can become responsible, self-directed, lifelong learners prepared to rise to new challenges and thrive in an unpredictable world.The Stamford School is part of the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union (WSWSU 049) which encompasses Stamford, Readsboro, Halifax, and the Twin Valley Schools of Wilmington, Vermont.
