), 12-month, professional faculty position.
This position is responsible for the planning and execution of undergraduate recruitment in the Portland Metro Area and additional assigned territories as needed. The regional admissions advisor is based in an assigned area and will work out of their home to support the undergraduate recruitment plan. Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, the Portland Regional Admissions Advisor implements Oregon State University (OSU) recruitment activities and new student programs in support of the campus enrollment goals and strategic plan. The Regional Admissions Advisor must be able to work independently, make decisions, develop plans, execute, and assess programs, plan recruitment travel, and monitor their assigned budget. The Portland Regional Admissions Advisor will work in conjunction with current Portland Regional and campus-based admissions staff. This position is a trained application reader as part of the admissions process where decisions directly affect enrollment, department and university goals as outlined in the strategic plan.

The purpose of the Portland Regional Admissions Advisor:
- Serve prospective high school and transfer students, families, schools, and community organizations.
- Generate tuition revenue and affect enrollment for OSU and OSU-Cascades by recruiting qualified students.
- Support academic programs and student services and stay in tune with campus events and activities for promotional purposes.
- Understand that their role is unique as an employee of OSU based off-campus out of their home and that they may need to find unique ways to be a self-advocate and determine ways to navigate the process of assisting students or in getting their job done.
- Develop relationships with key on-campus and off-campus partners.
- Support the university goals and strategic plan.
This position requires the ability to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, a minimum of seventeen weeks per year. This position will have general marketing duties and/or support recruitment marketing through OSU Admissions’ social media platforms, CRM platform and other electronic communications. This position will also provide daily and special event support to the Campus Visitor Center when necessary.

30% – Execution of Recruitment Plan:
- Represent OSU and OSU-Cascades/Office of Admissions at college fairs, high school visits, multicultural events, community colleges and other activities as needed and assigned in regional territory and other areas as needed and assigned.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key campus departments and external communities and organizations to best serve all student populations.
- Develop and maintain relationships on behalf of the university with high school and community college personnel, prospective students and their families, cultural and ethnic communities, and other influences.
- Work frequently with OSU units and promote OSU and OSU-Cascades programs and services in order to attract and enroll successful students to the university.
- Travel back to campus for training and other meetings as needed and assigned.
- Plan and conduct presentations, informational sessions, and discussions on OSU campuses and college enrollment options.
- Support the strategic plan and goals for a diverse and academically competitive student body through recruitment efforts.
25% – Planning, Development and Management of Recruitment Plan:
- Schedule recruitment and other program related activities from home; manage and coordinate travel arrangements to assure the effective use of resources.
- Confirm appointments and advertise visitations to students, counselors, and others.
- Store materials and maintain reports assessing effectiveness of activities and budgetary expenditures.
- Independently plan and coordinate travel and make budget/expenditure recommendations to the Associate Director of Recruitment.
- Communicate and advertise site visits through the distribution of mail and email; communicate with on campus staff to coordinate packing and shipping of recruitment and other materials.
10% – Counsel and Advise Prospective Students:
- Meet with and field questions from prospective students and their families to advise/counsel them on the admissions application process, status, requirements, deadlines, and OSU/OSU-Cascades programs.
- Make appropriate referrals to campus academic units, student programs and campus life opportunities.
- Give presentations at high schools or community colleges on admissions application process, college essays, college resume.
- Write notes and messages to follow up with students.
- Promote and refer students to all OSU campuses as appropriate and in alignment with current OSU and OSU-Cascades policies and procedures.
10% – Major Event Support and Assistance:
- Attend and assist with the planning of events and activities on behalf of the Office of Admissions and Oregon State University/OSU-Cascades as needed and assigned.
- Provide event coverage for key yield and reception programs (i.e., Destination Beaver Nation, Explore), plan and host training sessions for volunteers.
- Advise and provide feedback on programs for locations and date selections.
- Create reports for programs and develop surveys to assess effectiveness of programs and events.
- Partner with Marketing and Alumni Association to increase effective exposure and methods for recruitment.
- Attend campus-based open house programs as needed.
10% – Holistic Admissions Review:
- Review admissions applications, as part of holistic admissions process, and make admissions recommendations.
10% – Exposure and Development of University Relationships within Assigned Region:
- Participate in networking and recruitment activities with the regional admission-related networks such as ARROW.
- Regularly attend parent nights and workshops as needed and assigned.
- Continuously build relationships with counselors, participate in professional conferences, network with key players, and assist in branding to increase exposure for the University in the state.
- Advise campus on specific territory trends that may affect enrollment goals.
5% – Other Duties as Assigned:
- Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to: assisting with publications and website updates, helping with the management of social media efforts, working with volunteers, assisting with training sessions and meetings, providing support for the Associate Director of Recruitment and/or Communications Coordinator on special projects, and conducting research on state and national enrollment trends, serving on search committees and participating in professional development activities.
- Manage home office duties which include storing and tracking inventory of recruitment materials, maintaining responsibility for issued equipment (ex. laptop, cell phone, iPad, printer), performing daily office functions such as filing paperwork.
- Make frequent trips for postage services to ship items such as contact cards and reimbursements.
- Communicate regularly with regional counterparts.
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited not-for-profit college or university in discipline of choice.
- Minimum of 1 year of full-time professional experience in college admissions or college counseling or minimum 2 years of regular and formal work experience as an admissions, financial aid, housing, college outreach, or college ambassador position that involved regular, frequent and direct work with prospective high school and/or transfer students and their families. Ability to communicate effectively verbally in front of small and large groups and to provide workshops, training, and outreach programs.
- Candidate must have technological experience with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
- Must be able and willing to both travel for extended periods and work irregular hours extensively, including late nights, early mornings, evenings, and weekends, for a minimum of seventeen weeks per year.
- Demonstrable experience in creating and conducting presentations.
- Excellent verbal, oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity (competency or experience working with people from various backgrounds and cultures).
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to drive and travel in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to fly on a commercial aircraft.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Previous and recent work experience at a regionally accredited two-year or four-year not-for-profit college or university within a role that encourages college enrollment and involves regular and frequent work with prospective students and families strongly preferred.
- Experience and familiarity with utilizing social media applications, databases, and other student recruitment tools.
- Previous experience using a CRM (Slate preferred).
- Customer service and event planning experience with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to be flexible and operate in a fast pace and continuously changing environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in a second language (Spanish preferred).
- This position requires the ability to travel for extended periods and work irregular hours extensively including late nights, early morning, evenings, and weekends for a minimum of seventeen (17) weeks per year on a continuous and ongoing basis during all seasons; including driving, flying on commercial aircraft, and overnights stays.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Constant work in high schools, community colleges and event locations.
- Flexibility and ability to be productive in various locations a must.
- Residence in Multnomah County Preferred
