Job Summary and Qualifications
The Denver Market has an established system-wide Point of Care program. The Point of Care Testing Coordinator manages the technical and administrative operations of Point of Care (POC) program at the local site(s). May perform Medical Lab Scientist duties or other duties as assigned. The POCC is a non-exempt position.
Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
- Ability to develop and maintain rapport with others.
- Ability to create and maintain an environment that results in above average satisfaction ratings from employees, patients, and physicians.
- Ability to absorb negative information/criticism and maintain a balanced perspective on issues.
- Ability to negotiate priorities with individuals at various levels of the organization.
- Effectively communicates pertinent information to people at various levels of the organization.
- Ability to analyze and interpret numerical/statistical information to draw conclusions.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of test methodologies and quality control.
- Consistent knowledge of all Point of Care testing, procedures, instruments, connectivity / interfaces, specimen requirements, critical values and appropriateness of results.
- Oversee monitoring/review of all Point of Care testing and maintenance of records for all Point of Care activities.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the medical director or laboratory management.
- Maintain Individual Quality Control Plans (IQCP) and ongoing assessment of the plan. Document all corrective actions taken when the systems deviate from the laboratory’s established specifications
- Oversee training of all operators in the performance of Point of Care testing.
- Oversee POC nursing competency and proficiency testing.
- Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of Point of Care instruments including performance of correlation studies per regulatory schedule.
- Ensure compliance with all Laboratory and Facility Regulatory Agencies (CAP, State, TJC).
- Helps to write and maintain the system Point of Care testing procedures and policies.
- Embrace new technology and programs, participates in hospital, Denver Market, and HCA Corporate Lab Service Line initiatives.
- Actively participates in the HealthONE Denver Market system Point of Care Best Practice team. Maintains and submits Point of Care metrics as determined by the POC Best Practice team.

- Basic Skills – has technical skills required to work in the hospital laboratory setting
Degree of Supervision Required:
Self-directed and able to function with minimal supervision.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Licensure/Certification/Registration
MLS (ASCP), MLT(ASCP) or equivalent. Certified Point of Care Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, or Medical Laboratory Sciences, or equivalent
Experience
Four years’ experience in the clinical laboratory required.
Two years’ working experience in a supervisory/management position preferred.
Ability to adapt to new and changing circumstances.
