Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Planner in the Transit department. Transit planning includes transportation, land use, zoning, community development, emergency management, and geospatial sciences. Incumbent establishes methodology and uses existing procedures for transit-related data utilized in reporting for internal county use and external private and public entities. Transit planning also includes analysis of the performance of the transit system in terms of ridership, load factor, on-time performance, other financial and operating performance data and identifies trends that will lead to possible transit and mobility service improvements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for administering the federally required National Transit Database reporting, including automatic passenger counter program, passenger miles traveled surveys, automatic vehicle location data processing and reporting, services supplied, and federal funding allocation statistic calculations.
- Develops and maintains the geographic information system database of transit system performance data for the agency.
- Prepares and publishes the General Transit Feed Specification; works with external partners in providing and monitoring real-time GTFS data for external trip planning applications.
- Researches and compiles information on a variety of transportation planning and policy topics.
- Collect, clean and maintain databases; Analyze and prepare reports, maps, charts and tables for a variety of transit data.
- Evaluate transit performance trends and communicate findings to LeeTran leadership, Lee County MPO, Florida Department of Transportation and other partnering organizations.
Education, Experience, Licensing
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree in planning, computer science or closely related field and two years of urban planning or closely related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Supplemental Information
- Python, ArcPy and ArcGIS experience preferred.
- National Transit Database (NTD) experience preferred.
Knowledge of:
- Methods and procedures used in the development and analysis of planning information. Community trends and market analysis techniques.
- Statistical analyses techniques and formulas relevant to the planning process.
