The Pilot Plant Process Engineer provides work direction to the Feedstock Evaluation Unit (FEU). The ideal candidate will have experience with polymers, high-pressure operations, or supercritical fluids. They troubleshoot problems with the FEU Supervisor to maintain efficient use of this unit and ensure unit utilization is aligned with business goals. This role will report to the Vice President of Technology.

Location: Onsite in Ironton, OH

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Adapts run plans and set points to ensure work goals are met
• Troubleshoots day-to-day problems and provides technical guidance to the FEU operations team
• Identifies potential process improvements and leads efforts to improve the overall operation
• Analyzes FEU data and maintains a system for data retention
• Leads process improvement projects including design and management of change (MOC)
• Facilitates drawing updates, acquisition of equipment quotes, and completion of design calculations to support modification projects
• Drives operational excellence and ensures safe operating practices are executed

Basic Qualifications (Required)

• Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
• Ability to interpret and modify process and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs)
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and shift gears in a fast paced and challenging environment.
• Ability to comprehend and accurately interpret safety ad training materials.
• Willingness and ability to provide 24/7 on-call support as needed.
• An understanding of other skilled trades such as welding, plumbing and electrical.
• Computer literacy education, including office programs and spreadsheet applications.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee has the potential to be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
• The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, SCBA, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering
• 5+ years of combined experience in the manufacturing and chemical industry
• Pilot plant design or operational experience
• Experience with polymer production or blending
• Experience with supercritical fluids
• Experience with liquid-liquid extraction, settling, filtration, or fixed bed adsorption.
• People leadership experience.
• OSHA/PSM experience.
• Experience with Emerson control systems.
• Experience in startup companies.
