Description

Assists the public at the Building Division Intake Counter as well as via the County Electronic Plan Review system. Provides technical office support duties related to the processing and issuance of building permits, and performs related duties and or functions to further the goals of the Division as required.

**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

**Additional compensation based on licensure.

Essential Functions

Reviews, determines type, and estimates appropriate cost for building permits to be issued to builders, contractors, and private individuals. Issues appropriate permits for commercial and residential construction.

Processes permit applications by entering into computer and processing with other departments and agencies as required. Collects appropriate fees for permits issued.

Performs sufficiency review of building plans, blueprints, specifications, and sketches submitted to the Building Division to ensure the receipt of required documentation for each permit application based on type, and may assist with routing review workflow steps after sufficiency reviews.

Receives and processes funds for Development Services. May balance daily receipts and prepare deposits for County Finance. Performs review of contractor license documentation to ensure compliance with local and State laws prior to permit application.

Assists applicants with the permit application process by examining and/or answering questions concerning types of permits needed, processing steps involved or any other pertinent information to include instruction on the use of the Seminole County ePlan Review System and workflow steps.

Assists phone, counter and Electronic Plan Review customers as necessary.

Additional Duties:
Assists Inspectors via cellular phone contact as needed.

Performs other related work as required.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of high school/GED and one (1) year experience in a permit issuing agency, agency with a heavy electronic processing component, or related work environment, with the ability to type 35 words per minute.

A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Additional Requirements

Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances governing the issuance of permits.

Knowledge of various types of permits to be issued.

Ability to determine and calculate the type of permit, costs, and fees applicable to each permit request.

Ability to establish and maintain an efficient working relationship with the general public and co-workers.

Attention to detail is essential.

Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and personal computers as well as associated software.

May be required to maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.

All employees must attend Seminole County required trainings.

Department specific trainings per position may be required.
