PART-TIME TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT JOB DESCRIPTION
The Registrar of Voters Office is responsible for Maintaining Voter Registration Records, Administering Candidate Nomination Procedures, Conducting Federal, State, Local and School Elections, and Administering the Provisions of the Campaign Reporting Laws.
Election Worker Information and Job Description: The San Diego County Registrar of Voters is seeking to fill part-time temporary employment positions to assist with community outreach activities for the upcoming March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election cycle.
Work Hours: While preparing for an election, there may be overtime required, often with little or no advanced warning. Time off during an election cycle is very limited. Normal business hours are 8 am to 5 pm. However, work schedules vary depending on assignment and may require working evenings and weekends.
The ideal candidate for this position supports a Voter Outreach Coordinator and all team members in the Outreach program and, as time permits, supports the other language and general outreach programs. This position requires the following characteristics: bilingual, good communicator, excellent customer service and telephone etiquette, punctuality, flexibility, and exercise sound judgment in a busy, high-stress environment.
Skills/Abilities:
- speak before small community groups and with the public
- work in a fast-paced work environment
- work outdoors
- stand for long periods of time
- work weekends and evenings
- lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.),
- help set up and take down outreach booth in community events
- speak, read, write, understand, and follow oral and written instruction in bilingual language
- work with minimal supervision
- assist with various clerical duties, as needed
- Bilingual in any of the following languages: Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Somali, Persian, Spanish, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese
- Translation and proofing of documents will be a required skill in Spanish, Filipino, Chinese and Vietnamese.
Example of Duties:
- establish contact with the public over the phone and at community outreach events
- provide information to voters one on one and in group settings
- assist in scheduling bilingual community events
- assist with Bilingual Poll Worker Orientations
- research community events and gatherings where voter outreach may be appropriate
- work outdoors and able to set up and take down outreach booth
- sit or stand for long periods of time; may also need to go from one workstation to another
- perform repetitive movements (i.e. opening mail, typing, filing, sorting, bending, lifting, etc.)
