We are seeking a part-time Outreach Specialist for the CSU Desert Studies Center. The Outreach Coordinator position is a 12-month position. It will focus communicating about ecology of the Mojave desert, with an emphasis on the protection of plant communities.
- Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties
- Create outreach materials about desert plants and ecological interactions.
- Communicate about desert ecology on social media: Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms.
- Develop plans for outreach activities in the Mojave Desert.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with office software (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms).
- Familiarity with desert ecosystems and native plants.
- Enthusiasm for communicating about biodiversity.
- Bachelor's degree in biology, education, or communication.
- Experience with digital content creation and managing organizational social media accounts.
- Experience with design software (such as Canva or Illustrator).
- Familiarity with deserts and the off-road vehicle recreation community.
- Experience with informal education in museums or other venues.
- Experience with graphic design using platforms such as Illustrator or Canva.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing ability.
- Minimum some college coursework.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting of up to 25lbs.; periodic bending; long-term periods of sitting; long term periods operating a computer.
