DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: Summary:
The Cambridge Healthy Smiles Operations Specialist will support all aspects of the Cambridge Healthy Smiles Program as needed by the manager. Will participate as a teacher of the Cambridge Healthy Smiles Oral Health Education curriculum module during the school year in Cambridge Public School classrooms. Participates as a screener/recorder in the Oral Health Screenings in the Cambridge Public Schools and assist with the coordination and running of the sessions as needed by the manager. Assists manager in ensuring an efficient referral network to support the oral health needs of children participating in the program. Maintains the program's healthy relationship with the school nurses, family liaisons, and community dentists. Supports community outreach opportunities to the program participants in to reach the Cambridge families to improve oral health awareness to improve overall health.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate as a dental hygiene screener and recorder in CPS dental screenings.
  • Assist with Dental Screenings logistics preparation- screenings schedules, parent opt-out forms, oral health education schedules, screening supply needs, dental care referral follow-up with school nurses, and community dentists. Arrange for language interpreters when necessary.
  • Participate as a dental hygiene oral health education CPS classroom teacher
  • Assist with Oral Health Classroom Lesson preparation- classroom schedules, education prop materials, student supplies.
  • Assist with maintaining the database of dental screening results and follow-ups. Able to work with the Epidemiology Department on data projects to reach program goals.
  • Assist with maintaining and enhancing working relationships with area Dental Hygiene Schools, Dental Schools, and community programs.
  • Participate in community events and CPHD events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Other information:
  • Education/Training: Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program, BS degree required
  • Language: Bilingual ability preferred. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole desirable
  • Licensure: Massachusetts. Dental Hygiene License, CPR Certificate
Work Experience:
3-5 years’ experience in the dental field.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting.
Experience teaching children.
Experience in public health or community setting is strongly preferred.
Computer skills are essential. Experience with data collection preferred.
