JOB SUMMARY:
This position provides leadership and direction through effective management and fiscal performance for Upper Shore Aging, Inc. and the MAP/SHIP/I&A programs offered by the agency. Specifically, this position assists the executive director in agency day-to-day operations and provides oversight of the Maryland Access Point (MAP) Info and Assistance program serving the counties of Caroline, Kent, and Talbot. This position is responsible for the coordination of services with other agencies, for communication and education regarding the MAP referral program, as well as meeting requirements of the grant. This position is also responsible for community relations by continuing to build on existing relationships and establishing new ones to better serve the aging populations in each of our counties. This position is responsible for developing marketing strategies and communication plans to help build the agency’s visibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage day to day operations, and oversight of MAP/SHIP/I&A programs ensuring effectiveness and efficiency.
- Effectively manage direct reports to ensure department needs and objectives are achieved in an effective and efficient manner. Evaluate performance, provide coaching and counseling, lead hiring and termination decisions.
- Work with management team and state MAP program to implement effective processes, training, policies and procedures to enable the agency to achieve and improve the MAP Site program.
- Develop, implement and manage a system that expands the current program to include information on all programs and options for adults with disabilities, including referrals, screening, long-term living choices, etc.
- Work closely with local and state agencies, non-profit agencies and county department and officials coordinating initiatives and obtaining commitments for partnering agencies.
- Develop and implement education and outreach materials, programs and campaigns to promote and educate consumers, the community and caregivers about available services.
- Deliver outreach information to clients and agency team members through seminars and training sessions in a manner that is accurate and easy to understand.
- Ensure that MAP procedures are followed for intake and screening, information and referral, benefits and options counseling and long-term living choices.
- Work with Program Counselors to ensure that data is entered accurately and timely.
- Identify and coordinate cross-training for staff and partnering agencies that expand outreach and assistance to the older adult/disability communities.
- Host and attend local and state MAP (and related) meetings.
- Develop and coordinate quality assurance activities to adjust, correct or change MAP policies and procedures.
- Collect and prepare information necessary for local and state reports as required.
- Stay current with MAP changes and updates as it relates to the MAP program.
- Recommend, develop, and implement best practices, policies and procedures for building, establishing and maintaining community relations in all counties served by Upper Shore Aging.
- Develop and execute a strategic comprehensive marketing and communications plan that will increase the visibility of Upper Shore Aging to the community, with a goal of increasing fundraising efforts that will increase cash flow to allow for enhanced services for the senior population in our community.
- Establish ways to engage, outreach and connect through involvement in the communities served by Upper Shore Aging and through social media platforms to enhance community relations and awareness.
- Oversee performance reporting for all agency programs.
- Collect and prepare demographic reports and information necessary in a timely and accurate manner.
- Research and write grants with Fiscal input for programs serving our seniors.
- Stay current with the latest development and trends in programs, services, laws, regulations, and initiatives as it relates to the senior community.
- Prioritize and organize daily activities effectively and efficiently.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend meetings and training sessions as necessary.
- Assist in duties of other staff during their absence and/or as necessary.
- Provide technical support, as needed
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position manages the MAP/SHIP/I&A staff. This position is responsible for conducting performance reviews, developing performance management objectives, fostering development of staff, recommending training, providing coaching and counseling, recommending compensation changes, recommending hiring and terminations based on department needs, and scheduling of assignments and projects.
QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES:
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and application of principles and practices of social work as applied to senior populations. Knowledge of federal and state elder care laws. Knowledge of general principles of grants administration. Proven abilities in development and execution of marketing plans and successful fundraising campaigns. Must have a pleasant, engaging, and approachable demeanor. Ability to relate to individuals and groups in an emphatic, non-judgmental manner. Knowledge of the dynamics of working with the older population in the community. Proven ability to maintain a professional and pleasant demeanor while performing a variety of duties, managing staff across multiple disciplines in an effective and efficient manner. Strong verbal and written communication skills using the English language. Ability to effectively deliver and present information, as well as effectively respond to questions in both small and large group settings with employees, managers, seniors we serve, community groups, government agencies, etc. Working knowledge of Microsoft products to create and update reports. Attention to detail, efficiency, and confidentiality in all activities. Good organization and time management skills. Effective problem solving and analysis skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually with little supervision and instruction. Proven ability to recruit, train and motivate employees to balance staffing strength and effectiveness in services provided. Must have a passion for helping people
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field. 3-5 years’ experience in a management capacity responsible for people, budget, and multiple locations. Specific experience with seniors’ programs and/or non-profit preferable. Equivalent, comparable, and relative experience will be considered.
Physical Demands, Work Conditions and Environment:
- Ability to lift and carry up to ten pounds.
- Usual office type environment.
- May sit and view a computer screen for long periods of time.
- Location of job requires occasional work to be completed in off site locations and driving a vehicle.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather elements while at off site locations.
- Regular reliable access to a vehicle.
- Ability to operate a vehicle on a regular basis.
- Must be able to speak professionally and clearly to small and large groups.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
