Office Professional - PRN (As Needed) Job at Sweeny Community Hospital

Summary/Objective:
Overall responsibility for the business office duties of The Wellness Center. Duties may include typing, filing, patient registration, scanning documents, answering the telephone, scheduling appointments for patients, obtaining prior approval and insurance verification, keeping up with patient orders and signatures as required and faxing/refaxing and follow up phone calls to obtain signatures with physicians.
Essential Functions:
1. Answer the telephone using appropriate telephone etiquette.
2. Greet and check-in patients and inform therapist of their arrival, and screening/temperature checks as necessary.
3. Schedule patient’s appointments.
4. Register new patients to include: demographics, photo ID, insurance card or payment information, brief medical history, appropriate signatures on IPad, completion of appropriate standardized test for the physical therapist, and collect physical therapy prescription.
5. Verify insurance benefits prior to patient’s visit and inform them of estimated amount owed.
6. Check charges daily and compare to daily schedule to make sure all charges are submitted/posted.
7. Record the daily total number of visits.
8. Prepare monthly summary sheets for # of treatments, evaluations, and other data as requested.
9. Collect payments, post and take money and receipt to the hospital business office, and fax credit card receipts to front office daily.
10. Inform medical records when evaluations are signed either by telephone or providing a copy.
11. Fax initial evaluations, re-assessments, discharge summaries, and certification letters to physicians and follow up on signature to make sure it is obtained.
12. Keep a log of patients, along with prescription expirations dates, type of insurance, and number of authorized/ prescribed visits.
13. Scan items for patient’s charts.
14. Type any letters or other documents as requested by supervisor.
15. Maintain petty cash box.
16. Maintain and order supplies for The Wellness Center/KNG
17. Order linens for The Wellness Center/KNG
18. Clean hot pack machine.
19. Record temperature for Hot Pack/Cold Pack daily.
20. Deliver and pickup items from Sweeny Community Hospital.
21. Participates in staff development activities and attends and participates in hospital forums/meetings.
22. Attend and participate in monthly department meetings.
23. Participates in quality improvement by identification of problematic areas and active participation in problem solving process improvement.
24. Represents the department in a professional and loyal manner at all times.
25. Respects the right, dignity, privacy and property of others.
26. Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital or physician related information.
27. Uses available time to department advantage and assist where needed; demonstrates ability to be a self-starter to include cleaning mats and assisting with patient flow.
28. Willing to adjust personal schedule to accommodate department scheduling needs.
29. Suggest changes in policies or procedures to improve efficiency
30. Adheres to all rules, regulations, codes, ethics and guidelines in Federal, State and local laws concerned with the practice of Physical Therapy.
31. Adheres to all policies and procedures established by Sweeny Community Hospital.
32. Speaks and presents self in a professional manner.
33. Collect gym payments.
34. Assists Director with payroll as needed.
35. Assists Director with submitting statistics to various hospital departments.
36. Helps keep track of mandatory requirements and education to ensure all have completed.
37. Enthusiastically embraces the FIVE pillar ownership to include contributing and helping to achieve departmental and organizational metrics.

Physical Demands:
May have to sit up to one hour at a time, total hours during day 6-8. Standing/walking around The wellness Center. Lifting moderate up to 50# occasionally. Frequent bending and reaching, frequent us of speech and hearing. Close and distant vision necessary, Repetitive fine manipulation required for typing on computers and manipulation of papers. Occasional driving, 30 minutes maximum duration.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and core hours of work are Monday through Friday 8-5, 8 hours per day with no overtime or with overtime as needed as well as one hour for lunch. Position requires work schedule flexibility based on needs of the facility. If you are PRN, then the hours would be per required need.
TRAVEL
Occasional or frequent travel to and from: Physical Therapy clinics that are operated by Sweeny Community Hospital and Sweeny Community Hospital.
Requirements:Required Experience
Office experience preferable with knowledge of a variety of computer program applications such as word processing and excel spreadsheets. Must process exceptional customer service skills. Knowledge of insurance billing and coding preferred. Organizational skills a must.
Preferred Education, Experience and License
Experience in health care setting is preferred.
