Provides preventive health (family planning and sexually transmitted disease) services to males and females under approved written protocols with supervising physicians. Provides basic public health nursing utilizing standing orders. Establishes and monitors clinical practice in area of specialization.
Assesses the health of male and female patients, performs examinations, including physical and screening for psychosocial problems. Provides care for patients at risk or with complex reproductive health needs and refers appropriately.
Develops contraceptive plans including insertion and removal of LARCs.
Provides in-depth education, teaches, counsels, and monitors the treatment in selected populations.
Plans, implements, and evaluates clinical orientation and continuing education for preventive health nurses.
Serves as a preceptor and role model to preventive health nurses and nurse practitioner students.
Provides consultation to preventive health nursing staff.
Provides educational offerings to local and/or state level.
State Minimum Requirements: Positions in this classification require licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with clinical experience.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Agency Additional Requirements: MN, MSN, or DNP and license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the SC Board of Nursing and prescriptive authority through the SC Board of Nursing or MN, MSN, or DNP with ability to obtain license as an APRN by the SC Board of Nursing and perceptive authority through the SC Board of Nursing within three (3) months of hire.
DHEC employees are required to participate in disaster preparedness during hazardous weather or declaration of an emergency. This involves being subject to duty and or call on a 24-hour basis.
You must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable transportation.
This position may require working early (before 8:30 am), evening (after 5:00 pm) and/or Saturday's.
Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time, if required.
