The Nuclear Medicine Technologist uses radioactive materials to diagnose and treat diseases under the supervision of a physician. They prepare radiopharmaceuticals, administer them to patients and use imaging devices to record the distribution within a patient's body, to include nuclear cardiology. Have a knowledge to include the physical sciences, effects of radiation exposure, radiation procedures, radiopharmaceuticals, computer applications and imaging techniques. While working with radioactive material, nuclear medicine technologists are responsible for safety precautions, to ensure patients and workers are only exposed to the necessary amount of radiation.

  • Maintain required measurements and documentation of radiation dosage of radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed adhering to required regulatory guidelines to maintain licensure.
  • Provide required annual training to all staff badged to monitor radiation exposure of the effects of radiation exposure, radiation procedures, and radiopharmaceuticals. Submit required annual staff competencies to employee education manager.
  • Participate and submit monthly safety report/information to the facility Safety committee. Will maintain copy of monthly submitted reports within the department.
  • Maintain department alignment board and Policy Manager up to date with information aligned to the strategic plan as determined by the executive team and department Director.
  • Will maintain required competencies for IV insertion, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, pregnancy testing, EKG and holter monitor testing.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required - and

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required - and
