Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position in Statistics, Fall 2023

Job Responsibilities
Position: The School of Science and Mathematics at Truman State University is seeking applicants for at least one non tenure-track position in Statistics to begin August 2023. The position is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The position is a one-year, full-time appointment on a 9-month contract with annual renewal depending on performance, departmental needs, and funding.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate statistics classes offered by the Department of Statistics and perform other duties as assigned. Such duties could include advising, mentoring research students, or service to the university and community. Ample opportunities for additional summer teaching and research mentoring are available.

Program: The Department of Statistics at Truman State University supports a Masters Degree in Data Science and Analytic Storytelling, an undergraduate statistics major, and undergraduate certificate in data science. The department has 10 full-time faculty members with a variety of specialties who support our programs and campus-wide needs with over 50 sections of undergraduate statistics/data science and 20 sections of graduate data science courses annually. We also offer minors in Statistics and Data Science and actively support an Actuarial Science minor, statistically-related majors across campus, and other interdisciplinary areas. The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region. Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree (doctoral degree for Assistant Professor rank) in statistics or a closely related field with substantial coursework or teaching experience in statistics by the date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will receive preferred consideration for:
  • Academic qualifications above the minimum listed above:
  • Demonstrated potential for and evidence of excellence in teaching college-level statistics
  • Evidence of strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to teach multiple undergraduate courses taught within the department (including courses like Basic Statistics, Regression, and Data Science), in related areas (including Mathematics or Computer Science)
  • Experience with statistical software (including R) and other skills in data science.
  • Desire and ability to support Truman’s liberal arts and sciences mission, including statistics students consider communication, ethics, and broader impact on society.
