SUMMARY

The Innovation Engineer will lead the development of some types of exterior product such as EV Grille, ACC emblem, Illumination Grilles, or other Illumination products etc. The Innovation Engineer will take the program from inception through launch, which will include design and development of the product, attend the customer PDT meetings, keep track of program open issues, create and be responsible for GD&T, DFMEA, and DVP&R However, not a supervisory position, the Innovation Engineer will provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers, designers and departments on technical matters for exterior new product. This candidate will need to be able to work in a multinational, multicultural global setting

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with OEM to consult in the development of new exterior product to ensure that the product meets all requirements of the customer specifications, manufacturability, tooling feasibility and quality objectives
  • Resolve issues, technical problems through application of product knowledge of manufacturing process, engineering education, knowledge of industry practice and an awareness of new technologies
  • Direct and coordinate projects from design through production start-up, including prototype build, testing and establishment to specifications to achieve required performance and reliability, manufacturability and market competitiveness
  • Prepare technical promotion presentations and visit customers with Sales or Senior Engineering personnel on an assigned basis.
  • Recommend design approaches and solutions to technical problems directly to customers on routine matters and obtains assistance from peers, other departments and engineering management on critical issues
  • Track new technique and technology development trend and validate their application in exterior product.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related is required; an advanced degree is highly desired
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing automotive exterior product (Grille, bumpers, appliques, or emblems etc.) or automotive lighting components, or energy storage/ battery housing
  • Experience in one or more surface finish process, such as Chrome plating, Painting, Hard coating or other functional coating, PVD Metallizing, IML, Laser etching or other new process
  • Ability to work CAD software to review data, compare data, cut section etc
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T, FMEA’s, DVP&Rs
  • Ability to work in a global environment coordinating between North America, Europe and China
  • A high level of self-motivation and bias for action
  • Strong communications, presentation and organization skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and strong self-learning skills
