Background

Summary
This position is responsible for identifying, testing, and/or repairing corporate IT equipment as well as consumer electronics. When full repair and refurbishment is not feasible or ideal, harvest and test parts/components and/or evaluate for creative reuse (as props, display pieces, etc.). Help train and share knowledge with entry level repair technicians and other employees. Actively seek and gain up-to-date knowledge to better inform the repair and reuse process. Unrelenting patience and a passion for electronics is a must.
Responsibilities
Repair Operations
- Assess functionality, economic repairability as well as resale value of electronic devices, such as computers, networking, and sometimes audio/video equipment.
- Determine ideal pathway for electronics devicesRestore and repair items to “like new” or other economically feasible condition
- Efficiently harvest valuable parts when whole unit repair is not feasible or ideal
- Ensure all functions, inputs, outputs, controls, etc. are properly tested and “burned in” before items are released.
- Accurately complete appropriate paperwork on repaired/refurbished items
- Communicate professionally and provide excellent customer service by phone, text, online and in-person.
- Coordinate and communicate with colleagues about repair needs and status, adjusting workflow as needed depending on fluid priorities
- Support manager with maintaining and documenting inventory of parts, supplies, and tools
- Stay abreast of the latest trends, techniques, software and tools
- Keep workstation and surrounding area clean and organized
- Pass internal auditing and limit recalls to 3-5%
- Meet efficiency standards and hit daily/weekly targets
Team Guidance
- Modify, update and create testing processes for larger quantities of items and help managers roll out testing procedures
- Fill in gaps and provide coverage when supervised staff are absent (see their job descriptions for details) and when non-standard situations arise.
- Assist in developing apprenticeship-type programs and pathways for people from Recycling Division to ITAD and Reuse Division.
- Daily: Set the standard that all technicians should be working towards while being efficient, detailed, and as safe as possible.
- Weekly: Provide feedback and proactive updates to the sales manager, reuse manager and/or director of reuse.
- Quarterly/Annually: Help managers with auditing as well as provide insight during performance evaluations
Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety (QEHS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
- Adhere to QEHS policies and procedures.
- Adhere to company data security policies and sanitization protocols for all data storage devices.
- Recognize gaps in processes and documentation related to scope of work, correcting this through active contribution to QEHS and other best practices.
- Provide analysis, testing, and feedback on ERP development and implementation.
Other Operations
- Advise with internal network and software upgrades
- Upkeep internal software programs and network infrastructureHelp troubleshoot basic issues and make sure it is properly maintained
Document network maps and best practices
- Occasionally support off-site (including out-of-state) equipment evaluation and asset management projects
Basic Qualifications/Requirements

- Ability to get to varying job sites in LA county independently and on-time
- 3+ years experience with IT, networking, and coding
- 3+ years experience (or equivalent) in electronics testing and repair, including:Computers, Tablets and Cellphones (Android, iPhone, iPad, other apple products, etc.)
Other IT equipment: Monitors, servers, networking equipment, etc.
- Board level component removal/replacement and troubleshooting
- Schematic and electronic component identification understanding
- Competent with Google (Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft (Word, Excel) suites of applications
- Solid math skills and analytical aptitude
- Ability to problem solve, multitask, and wear multiple hats in a fast-paced startup environment
Additional Desired Qualifications/Experience
- Electronics Engineering or IT education and/or background
- Electro-mechanical aptitude (e.g., AC/DC motor repair and rebuilding)
- IT and NetworkingA+ Certification
Cisco Certification
CompTIA Certification
- Computer and cellphone repair experienceMicrosoft Certified (Desktop, Server, etc.)
AppleCare Technician
- Vintage Analog and Digital Electronics repair and testing experience(Receivers, Tube and Solid State Amplifiers, Tape Decks, Studio Electronics, Pro Audio, Video Cameras, CRT and other Televisions, etc.)
- Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters
- Online or Brick-and-mortar electronics sales experience
- Participation in Maker Fairs and/or related conferences
- Musicianship/Sound Engineering experience
- Being the person your friends and family asks for help with electronics
- Enrollment in continuing education
Additional Position Information
- Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly), according to FLSA guidelines.
- Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K
- Other: This position may include occasional travel within the greater Los Angeles area and elsewhere in California or other states. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be necessary.
- Work Conditions: Warehouse environment, including regular standing and sitting. Some exposure to environments with occasional loud noises from machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Physical Requirements: Lifting of approximately 25-50 pounds.
