The Hartford is seeking qualified candidate to fill the role of a Microsoft SQL Server Data Modeler in our Global Specialty Organization. The Data Modeler is responsible for all data related aspects of a project. At a macro level this comprises working with Data Architects and Business leaders to understand the architectural roadmaps that support and fulfill business strategy. At a micro level this comprises working with individual projects as a contributing member, designing Logical Data Models and stewarding the data design of the project and ensuring alignment with the larger roadmap goals.
Responsibilities
  • Understand the relationships across business information and units of data to translate business and data requirements into data models in support of Enterprise Data Models, Data Warehouse and Analytical systems.
  • Perform rigorous data analysis and data discovery and data profiling.
  • Ensure data design follows the prescribed reference architecture and framework; Ensure design reflects appropriate business rules, and facilitates data integration, data conformity and data integrity; Ensure data structures are designed for flexibility to support future business needs and enhancements.
  • Support multiple Scrum teams collaborating with Senior Data Modelers, Business Data Analysts, Data Architects, Data Stewards, and Business Customers.
  • Maintain Data Mapping documents, Bus Matrix and other Data Design artifacts that define technical data specifications and transformation rules.
  • Understand database performance factors and trends pertaining to very large database design.
  • Implement physical modeling solutions; provide data structures optimized for information entry and retrieval.
  • Effectively communicate data design to other members of the team to ensure proper implementation and utilization of the data structures; support development team during process design and during performance tuning; support QA team during Test Strategy and test case development.
  • Maintain existing report and dashboard library.
  • Support business in preparing data regulatory exhibits.
  • Pursue continuous improvements based on lessons learned and industry best practices. All processes include consideration for data integrity and data quality.
  • Understand the goals and risks associated with the business and technical requirements and offer counsel on risk mitigation and the alignment of data solution with objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in data modeling, data design, and best practices in a MS SQL Server environment.
  • Experience in Data Management best practices, Data Integration, and Data Patterns.
  • Strong Data Analysis experience
  • Experience with SQL and the ability to tune queries and database structures for performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent team player and attention to detail
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum teams
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$82,240 - $123,360
