Role:
As the Home Mortgage Advisor you solicit and originate residential first mortgage and home equity loans through contact with realtors, builders, developers, personal referrals, corporate leads as well as credit union branch partners. Provide quality service to members and potential members seeking residential mortgage loans.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Interview applicants to submit accurate and complete loan applications. Structure application product terms and pricing to ensure it meets the members need. Initiate and execute application disclosures in accordance with compliance and regulatory standards. Collect the necessary documents from applicants and move applications into processing within established time frames. Assist the assigned mortgage loan processor and closer to obtain documentation to ensure a smooth mortgage loan process. Proactively communicate status of loan throughout the loan process to all interested parties.
Act as the primary external business development representative serving realtors, builders, the at large housing community and Community First Credit Union members seeking purchase pre-approvals. You will be an active member and participant in the local realtor and builder associations; attending events, making sales calls on realtor offices and builder communities. As an advisor you will actively build relationships with individual agents, referral partners and promote specialty products and services.
Engage in external networking and continuing education via local trade associations, conferences, workshops. Membership in affiliated mortgage banking associations should be established as time and resources allow to stay abreast of federal regulations and secondary market changes. Provide support to other critical areas of mortgage lending and projects or assignments as identified.
Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Experience:
Minimum of three years experience in the Mortgage industry, proven sales experience in retail banking.
Education/Licenses:
Incumbents are required to maintain their registration active, and current, with the National Mortgage Licensing System throughout their employment.
Interpersonal Skills:
Strong sales and organizational skills essential. A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
Other Skills:
Ability to work in a high stress and fast paced environment. A high degree of mortgage and some underwriting knowledge along with familiarity with basic mortgage paperwork and process is required. Strong attention to detail, organizational and analytical analysis skills are required. Individual must present a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
Physical Requirements:
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Intermediate PC skills in a Windows environment is preferred. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including CRTs, typewriters, telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements:
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete complex mathematical calculations and spell accurately. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
