Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Medical Director, Curbside Care this person transports a team of BMC clinicians to patients’ homes in the

City of Boston for health care services on board the Mobile Unit (which is a modified ambulance) for a minimum of 32 hours per

week. This person is an integral part of the Mobile Unit team and may be called upon to assist with patients’ safe entry and exit of the

vehicle and ensuring the outside environment is appropriate for patient care. Additionally, this person is responsible for maintaining the

Mobile Unit in accordance to Department of Public Health licensure and BMC standards of care. Duties may include: timely disposal

of hazardous waste and sharps, removal and replacement of linens, routine cleaning of the clinical space and equipment, ensuring the

appropriate storage, transport, and delivery of medications, vaccines, and specimens and maintenance of emergency equipment on the

Mobile Unit. This job also includes overseeing routine fueling and maintenance to the vehicle.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

· Transports a clinical team including: a nurse practitioner, a certified nurse midwife, a lactation consultant, a community

wellness advocate, and trainees to the doorstep of patients’ homes in the City of Boston.

· Identifies appropriate site locations on solid level parking surfaces according to DPH licensure requirements.

· Greets patients and families in a friendly courteous positive customer service manner. Treats patients in a manner that

preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and patient rights.

· Checks /inspects transport vehicle for safety prior to transport. Checks for cleanliness, sufficient emergency medical supplies

(such as oxygen) for round trip, checks brakes, fuel, handrails, etc. Cleans if necessary.

· Ensures the outside environment is appropriate for patients; clears snow on or to support direct access to the vehicle,

discourages bystanders.

· Maintains the Mobile Unit, equipment, and supplies, in a safe and sanitary manner. This responsibility includes the processing

and disposal of infectious/physically dangerous medical/biological waste, the removal and restocking of linens, and the

sanitizing of equipment and clinical spaces according to DPH and BMC pre-existing policy.

· Responsible for maintaining the equipment necessary for medication preparation (refrigerator and/or locked drug storage

unit).

· Performs and records appropriate review on emergency medical equipment (such as the AED) and the fire extinguisher.

· Performs and records fire rating of all structural materials and finishes and all testing and calibration (air balancing, air

filtration, sprinkler, biomedical equipment and electrical testing).

· Delivers lab specimens from the Mobile Unit to laboratories in properly sealed containers in a timely manner. Ensures

specimens are delivered to appropriate lab accompanied by the appropriate requisition if required.

· Responsible for routine maintenance of the vehicle including: fueling, registration renewal, inspection renewal and mechanical

upkeep.

· Is available to the clinical team by cell phone during work hours, responds to calls/texts in a timely manner.

· Complies with established practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and regulations, e.g., DPH, Joint

Commission, Fire Codes, OSHA, etc.

· Completes annual mandatory educational requirements, e.g., safety regulation and infection control review, departmental and

unit specific competencies, etc.

· Maintains a presentable appearance in accordance with dress code. Wears assigned uniform, pager and visible ID badge while on duty. · Remains knowledgeable of and demonstrates reliability in regard to established work rules and policies such as hours of work, attendance, punctuality standards, work assignments etc. · Experience driving an ambulance is preferred. · Spanish and/or Haitian Creole proficiency is preferred. · AHA healthcare provider CRP certification is preferred.

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
