Administers nursing care to assigned patients following the nursing process, under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, including routine medications and IV Therapy as outlined by Hospital policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Practical Nursing, or appropriate state board where services

will be provided, as a practical nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure

Compact (eNLC).

2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EXPERIENCE:

1. Previous nursing experience preferred.

1. Assess the needs of the patient on admissions and completes the history section of the nursing assessment form.

2. Collects objective and subjective data regarding patient status and reports observations to the Registered Professional Nurse.

3. Performs ongoing assessment of physical and emotional status.

4. Sets priorities in planning patients’ needs.

5. Utilizes other members of the health team to plan their respective aspects of patient care.

6. Includes patient family in updating plan of care, and sets realistic and measurable goals.

7. Communicates with appropriate members of the health team to develop a discharge plan.

8. Assists in carrying out plan of care as designated by the Registered Professional Nurse and as a member of the Health Care team.

9. Promotes a safe environment conducive to patient well being.

10. Reinforces information regarding procedures, treatments and medications to patient and family as provided by other members of the Health Care team.

11. Observes for potential patient complications and reports observations to the Registered Professional Nurse.

12. Distributes prescribed medications to assigned patients according to policy after educational requirements.

13. Performs IV Therapy skills according to competencies and Nursing Policy and Procedures.

14. Demonstrates ability to give and receive verbal report related to those patients under their care.

15. Recognizes self limitations and seeks help from appropriate source as needed.

16. Maintains a therapeutic relationship among patient, family and self, based on empathy and trust.

17. Relay’s pertinent information regarding patient’s status to the Registered Professional Nurse.

18. Utilizes proper channels of authority in communicating staff needs.

19. Collaborates with health care and other members of the team regarding individual patient care needs.

20. Performs and documents nursing orders and patient outcomes with cognizance of legal consequences.

21. Cleans environmental surfaces as needed.

22. Maintains and fills supply dispensers.

23. Gathers and disposes trash and waste material according to policy and procedure. Removes waste and soiled linens from work area and places items in specified bags or containers.

24. Cleans and prepares dismissal and transfer units for new occupant as needed.
