METRO BUS OPERATOR TRAINEE SIGN-ON BONUS UP TO $4000
BASIC FUNCTION:
Trainee will attend a 12-week training class to become a full time Bus Operator. This will include the ability to attain a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License, Learners Permit within the first two weeks.
As an Operator, the incumbent will maintain METRO Bus schedules and running times, announce station stops in the event of service interruption or failure of automated announcement equipment, and interact with passengers in a professional manner, answers questions, provide information and address concerns of riders. Will perform duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
BONUS PAYMENT:
Bus Operator with full CDL and Passenger endorsement (P)=$4,000.00
Receive $2,000.00 after training completion, probationary period, and active employment from their hire date (Estimated 5 months)
Receive an additional $2,000.00 after 12 months of service after probation ends. (Approximately 17 months)
Bus Operator with Class C to acquire CDL with Passenger Endorsement (P)=$2,500.00
Receive an additional $1,250.00 after 12 months after probation ends. (Approximately 17 months)
Receive $1,250.00 after training completion, probationary period, and active employment from their hire date (Estimated 5 months)
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited educational body
- 19 Years of age
- (1) year or more Valid Texas Driver’s License is required
- No Moving Violations within the last (3) three years
- No more than (2) accidents, no time limit
- Must have (1) year consistent work history
· CDL Learners Permit
GOOD TO HAVE:
- Transportation / Commercial Driving Experience desirable
- Great Customer Service skills
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical failures
- Bilingual
Duties and Responsibilities Listed but not all included:
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Full-Time Bus Operators shifts vary and may work holidays and weekends.
- Reports and properly follows up on all accidents or unusual incidents in and on, or near METRO buses.
- Adheres to the Labor Agreement, Employee Performance Code and Work Rules.
· Operators follow parking instructions and procedures upon returning Authority vehicles to garage facility, relief point and other designated locations.
- Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passengers’ comfort
- Complies with all traffic laws, maintains safe driving speeds and safe operation of the vehicle during all types of conditions.
- Reports delays and/or accidents
- Reports any vehicle damage, mechanical, or electrical problems
- Report any action taken to correct the problem
- Report to work prior to trip to prepare for that days’ trip
- Preparation includes inspecting the vehicle’s operable condition and completing the Driver’s Trip Report
- Become familiar with the trip location(s) and/or read any necessary maps
Disqualifying Criteria:
- Two or more DUI or DWI convictions with no time limit
- Any moving Violation within 3 years
- Three accident convictions with no time limit
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas has a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for all employees. All internal and external applicants will be required to undergo drug testing before employment and will be subject to further drug and/or alcohol testing throughout their employment.
Further, employees who perform safety-sensitive functions will submit to drug and/or alcohol testing in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulatory requirements.
