This position is a school mental health therapist in Greenville Mental Health Center's School Mental Health Program. School Mental Health Therapists are humble, caring, non-judgmental professionals who value developing connections with students and families. GMHC's School Mental Health Program seeks to build resilience in students and their families through effective therapy and support in school and community settings. School mental health therapists are stationed in schools full-time, and they integrate into the professional teams of the schools they serve. From their offices at schools, mental health therapists offer individual therapy, family therapy, assessments and crisis intervention services. School mental health therapists can also offer group therapy, behavior modification, and other rehabilitative behavioral health services. School mental health therapists regularly collaborate with teachers, administrators, and school teams, and they participate in the prevention and early intervention efforts of their schools. School mental health therapists are expected to meet with their teams at Greenville Mental Health Center regularly, to receive clinical supervision from their supervisors, and to participate in staffings with Greenville Mental Health Center psychiatrists. Therapists work with a range of clients and diagnoses. The majority of clients are insured through Medicaid, and all services are documented according to Medicaid standards.

School mental health therapists are year-round employees. During weeks when school is out, including summer break, therapists offer services through Greenville Mental Health Center's Intensive Community-Based Services Program. Therapists engage clients in group therapy and a range of therapeutic activities and interventions aimed at helping children to achieve success in their homes, schools, and communities through development and application of social and emotional skills.
School mental health therapists are required to have a Master's degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or psychology. School mental health therapists should be flexible people who can work in fast-paced environments. School mental health therapists should have a strong work ethic, work well independently, and have strong written and oral communication skills.
