The Phillies are seeking a full-time Mental Health Lead to oversee implementation of mental health services and programming for our athletes and staff, while also serving as the main mental health practitioner for the Major League roster. The Mental Health Lead will be based in Philadelphia, PA throughout the year with frequent travel to Clearwater, Florida during spring training, the regular season, and fall and winter programs. The Mental Health Lead will be tasked with fostering an environment focused on overall mental well-being with treatments spanning the spectrum of psychological care. In addition to psychological care, the Mental Health Lead may also have crossover into optimization of performance through collaboration with our Mental Performance staff. This individual will provide education and training to our staff and facilitate clinical referrals by building a network of licensed psychologists and EAPs at our various affiliate locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Takes leadership of Mental Health program through the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based approaches
  • Conducts mental health screenings of players and provide follow up assessment and support as needed, including being the go-to mental health practitioner for our active Major League roster
  • Provides crisis intervention and emergency services on-site and through an on-call system and the development of a forward thinking Employee Assistance Program for The Phillies athletes and staff
  • Documents, reports, and maintains confidential records and information in compliance with all applicable laws and professional ethical standards
  • Leads in-person support and referrals during the regular season to our athletes and staff in Philadelphia while building a network of licensed professionals that is regularly accessible to our athletes and staff located in Clearwater and our other locations
  • Manages referrals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care of athletes and staff
  • Develops and disseminates educational materials to coaches, athletes, and other sports performance and medical staff
  • Conducts psychological evaluations including administration/interpretation of assessment instruments
  • Conducts outreach to disseminate information about wellness, psychological issues, and their treatment
  • Participates in professional conferences and conventions at the local, regional, and national levels to ensure The Phillies standards are adapting with the latest trends and research in the mental health industry

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program with a valid licensure as a Psychologist and Health Service Provider in Psychology or Psychiatry
  • Any successful candidate not currently licensed in the State of Pennsylvania must be eligible for a reciprocity license and will be required to apply for licensure upon commencement of the role
  • Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychiatrist
  • Experience working with a multi-cultural athlete and staff population, including working with and building referral networks for Spanish speaking and English Language Learning populations
  • Relevant experience with Mental Performance training for high-performing athletes, or demonstrated cross-functional experience working with a Mental Performance staff
  • Adhere to the American Psychological Association (APA) and AASP code of ethics
  • Ability to triage and provide appropriate referrals to other community behavioral health providers and services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Previous experience working in an interdisciplinary high-performance sport or related environment
