Better Home Care is actively recruiting for Medical Records Clerk to join our administrative team. The qualified candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including collecting patient information, issuing medical files, filing medical records, and processing patient paperwork.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and reviews Medicare patient files and retrieves files; studies patient charts and communicates with HHAs, CNAs, LPNs and RNs; files additional patient data upon receipt of information; prepares file labels; audits filing sequence.
• Responds to requests for medical records for professional and medical personnel; processes letters and reports; answers and directs telephone calls.
• Works within weekly reports to keep medical records filed timely within all state and federal guidelines.
• Performs pre-billing medical record audits.
• Works with the billing department for timely billing.
• Distributes reports and materials to other departments; requests information from various departments; responds to administrative information requests.
• Photocopies documents and medical records; sends & receives information via facsimile machine.
• Keeps the supervisor informed of problems or issues; monitors supplies needed; performs other duties as assigned.
• Communicates with medical personnel over the phone in support of chart information.
• Speaks with physicians to keep physician orders signed and timely in medical record.
• Performs some special tasks that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• College degree in business or medical
• Strong knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid practices
• Excellent customer service skills and phone manner
• Experience with medical billing and coding in a home health environment
• Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment
