We are hiring for a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Collections Agent to join our third-party collections team. This position offers a hybrid work environment, with options to work in our Chicago, IL or Jacksonville, FL offices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for recovering the money owed in as little time as possible. This role demands excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as an understanding of the rules and regulations associated with medical debt collections.

Responsibilities:

• Contact individuals and insurance companies to negotiate outstanding balances and set up payment arrangements.
• Understand and adhere to all Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) rules and regulations.
• Review accounts for accuracy, disputing any discrepancies, and updating account information as necessary.
• Resolve client billing problems and rescuing accounts receivable delinquency.
• Track and report on collection activity and accounts receivable status.
• Collaborate with the team to meet and maintain performance goals.
• Ensure confidentiality and adherence to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
• Use computer systems to handle and document calls, including customer information, payment arrangements, and collection efforts.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
• At least 2 years experience in a collections role, ideally within the healthcare industry.
• In-depth knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques (e.g., skip tracing).
• Familiarity with all relevant legal constraints and industry best practices.
• Proficient in MS Office and comfortable with database software.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and remain patient and professional.
• Understanding of medical terminology and coding is a plus.
