The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered Medical Assistant II (MA) 80% (32 hours per week) to work within our specialty clinics supporting our Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Clinic in Cedar Rapids. This position supports our clinics team-based care model spending more time within patient care. Summary:

Under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner), RN (registered nurse), NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licensed designee, functions as a member of the patient care team. Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.

Duties to include:

• Staff will support our Orthopedic Clinic patients.
• Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.
• Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting.
• Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
• Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards

Percent of Time: 80% (32 hours per week)

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Wednesday from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Thursday from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, no weekends and no holidays, no on-call time.

Salary: $37,668.80 - $55,931.20 / Hourly: $18.11 - $26.89 (based on years of experience)

*In addition to base salary, the selected candidate is eligible for limited time offer of a sign-on incentive of $3,000 for former employees and new hires.* Current UI employees are not eligible.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one year Medical Assistant Program, or Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology

Special Qualification/License

• Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards

Desirable Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant is preferred
• Ambulatory care experience, including telephone triage experience in the outpatient setting
• Previous experience in orthopedics
• Previous casting experience
• Previous injection experience with/without ultrasound
