The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered Medical Assistant II (MA) 80% (32 hours per week) to work within our specialty clinics supporting our Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Clinic in Cedar Rapids. This position supports our clinics team-based care model spending more time within patient care. We offer our patients comprehensive care teams which includes orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and other advanced care providers. For more than 100 years, the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation has provided some of the most advanced care by using state-of-the-art approaches to treatment.

Summary:
Under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner), RN (registered nurse), NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licensed designee, functions as a member of the patient care team. Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
Duties to include:
- Staff will support our Orthopedic Clinic patients.
- Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.
- Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting.
- Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
- Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards

Percent of Time: 80% (32 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Wednesday from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Thursday from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, no weekends and no holidays, no on-call time.

Salary: $37,668.80 - $55,931.20 / Hourly: $18.11 - $26.89 (based on years of experience)
*In addition to base salary, the selected candidate is eligible for limited time offer of a sign-on incentive of $3,000 for former employees and new hires.* Current UI employees are not eligible.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one year Medical Assistant Program, or Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology
Special Qualification/License
- Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards
Desirable Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant is preferred
- Ambulatory care experience, including telephone triage experience in the outpatient setting
- Previous experience in orthopedics
- Previous casting experience
- Previous injection experience with/without ultrasound
