Main Responsibilities / Activities
The Mechanical Project Design Engineer acts as a designing liaison and collaborator in the planning, developing, and coordination for large engineering projects, and several small projects with complex features. This role will report directly to our R.A. Jones Mechanical Engineering Manager. It is on-site at our Covington, KY location. Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:
- Under minimal supervision, using CAD software packages to provide support to engineers, assemblers, and sales by preparing routine customer approval drawings, detail drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Develops size/range part drawings for customer specific applications by utilizing established design parameters and norms.
- Responsible for creating drawings that exhibit the detail and method of assembly for a variety of machinery and mechanical devices.
- Develops original design concepts for simple mechanical linkages, structures, transmissions, actuators, tools, and devices for use in automatic machine.
- Records and performs any required design modifications and completes required ECN documentation.
- Attends design review meetings with engineering staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of design and drafting tasks.
- Interacts with vendors, contractors, and internal production personnel to resolve manufacturing and assembly issues, coordinate engineering deliverables and to provide technical assistance.
- Participates in the in-house start-up and testing/debug process.
- Provides timely and accurate communication with clients.
Key Competences / Leadership Attributes
- High Level of competency with a variety of computer aided drafting (CAD) packages.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
- Ability to work well in tight deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking, cross-functional environment.
Basic Requirements
- AS Degree or certificate in engineering, drafting, and design strongly preferred, or business equivalent experience.
- 3-years drafting and designing.
- Ability for minimal travel domestically.
- Able to work in an office and manufacturing environment at R.A Jones and customer facilities.
- Physical walking and standing, typically on a shop floor.
- Some exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and smoke.
