BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain and repair a wide variety of City-owned and operated vehicles and equipment and assist senior mechanic staff as directed. Responsibilities include diagnosing and servicing drive-train systems, diesel and gas fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and computer control systems. Repairs may also require welding, fabricating, and wiring. Performs preventative maintenance work such as oil changes, lubrication and replacement of spark plugs, filters, air pollution equipment, tires, brakes, tune-ups, emission systems, wiring, and replacing hoses (hydraulic and water).

SPECIAL SKILLS & TRAINING REQUIRED:

• A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tank endorsements and a valid medical certification card. • Michigan State master certification in automotive, light truck, and heavy-duty truck categories or must obtain before the probationary period (6 months) is completed. PREFERRED: • ASE or EVT certification or both. • First Aid and CPR certification • Illicit Discharge Elimination Program Training • Certified in Incident Command.

EDUCATION:

High school graduate or equivalent required. Technical school or Associate Degree preferred.

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in automotive, truck, gas, diesel engine and small engine repairs is required.

PAY RATE

$27.27 - $29.90 per hour Defined benefit retirement plan & retiree health savings account with employer contribution.
