Summary: Evaluates, develops, designs and implements new and existing mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, systems and facility projects. Provides engineering support to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems. Works closely with Area Managers on process improvements and equipment reliability. Oversees the work of vendors and contractors in the completion of work. Utilizes AutoCAD and Inventor design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include those listed below. Other duties may be assigned. This position is a full time (minimum 40 hours per week) on-site position.

  • Manages the design of machinery, plans and develops projects, tests, modifies and creates solutions to technical problems.
  • Supports production as the technical lead for operating and maintaining plant equipment in assigned areas.
  • Utilizes knowledge of technology, production methods and procedures, and capabilities of machines and equipment.
  • Analyzes manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancement of quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
  • Designs and develops manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes, new products and related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with continuous improvement and low product cost.
  • Provides technical support to manufacturing personnel and adheres to equipment and product specifications.
  • Ensures processes are safe, functional and validated to perform at their design capability to deliver high quality products.
  • Supports and improves the process for manufacturing by implementing practices that support reliability and maintainability.
  • Responsible for new and existing equipment and facility projects. Reviews assigned projects to define, design, develop and deploy the most workable solution and minimizing resource requirements.
  • Designs and drafts detail drawing or sketch for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine shop.
  • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components, assemblies or systems, industrial equipment, machinery, power equipment, servosystems, machine tools and measuring instruments.
  • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and geographical data and recommendations for changes in product or test method.
  • Improves work methods and procedures to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Troubleshoots and works with Maintenance to resolve problems.
  • Works within budget constraints.
  • Observes all Company, housekeeping, safety and plant policies and procedures.
  • Has strong written, oral, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Fosters a focus of continuous improvement.
  • Keeps Engineering Manager informed of problems and important matters as they arise.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversees the work of vendors and contractors in the completion of work including but not limited to costs, schedule, completeness and quality of work, safety and environmental factors.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required plus 3 years’ related engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing setting; OR an equivalent combination of related post graduate education and/or experience. Must be mechanically inclined and have good mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic system design and troubleshooting skills. Must be proficient with AutoCAD software.

Computer Skills:
Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, MS Office programs and applications for word processing, email, database management, spreadsheets and AutoCAD software.
