CREC Academy of International Studies seeks a team oriented Theme Coach/ IB MYP Coordinator. The Theme Coach develops programs and partnerships to strengthen the school’s theme and support high academic achievement for all students.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Professional Development Curriculum and Instruction
Family and Community Partnerships Lottery and Recruitment
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain supportive and collaborative relationships with teachers and support staff
Provide coaching, modeling, and support related to theme integration and the delivery of high quality effective instruction to diverse groups of learners
Assist in the development and implementation of a theme magnet learning community.
Facilitate grade level meetings designed to integrate theme instruction across the curriculum
Plan and lead professional development sessions
Lead the development of a theme-integrated and cross-disciplinary curriculum
Facilitate integrated, theme and project-based lessons
Support and facilitate the curriculum alignment process through a whole-curriculum approach to instructional design
Develop integrated units and leverage thematic connections to accelerate academic achievement
Assist in the ordering and selection of magnet based materials
Develop community and/ or industry partnerships to strengthen the school’s theme and support high academic achievement for all students
Coordinate professional development and technical assistance from external experts
Coordinate whole-school theme learning activities and events designed to strengthen family involvement and student engagement
Provide ongoing home-school communication about theme learning and events
Report regularly to the principal on the status of student recruitment
Attend RSCO coordinator monthly meetings
Review the RSCO catalog, CREC Catalog, School brochure, Fair Board and all other recruitment materials before going to print.
Organize materials for and attend regional magnet fairs
Coordinate and host school-based recruitment fairs and tours
Strong theme content knowledge
Qualifications
Valid State of CT teaching certification
Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching, preferably with experience in theme content areas
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to use data to assess, monitor and improve teaching and student performance
Ability to model and integrate theme content into all curricula areas
Ability to coordinate real-world theme experiences for students
Experience and skill as a coach or mentor
Leadership abilities in organizing, implementing and maintaining an effective collaborative instructional program
Strong background in curriculum development, assessment and evaluation
Experience working in a culturally, socially and economically diverse student/parent population.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Belief that all students can learn at a high level
Commitment to the vision, mission, values and goals of CREC Schools
