Our last Marketing Manager left a huge hole in the building.

We knew they weren’t going to be here forever, even though we kind of hoped they would. Because, honestly, they crushed this job. But we understand. Things change, people move on (even though our average staffer has been here for a decade). It’s just the way of the world. Which brings us to you. And, for all we know, you’re even more passionate and capable and effective than our last Marketing Manager was. You might be the proverbial window that opens when a proverbial door shuts. There is a good litmus test to find out, in two parts.

Part One: Go through this list of things our last Marketing Manager was good at, and see if you’re good at them, too:

• This person had passion. For living, for people, for design, for our brand.

• They did a deep dive into the category, getting to know our unique position in the industry, alongside our competitors.

• They quickly internalized our overarching purpose and values, making sure they were the guiding principles driving every marketing activity.

• They were an unusually good listener, and empathetic.

• They were able to keep secrets, since many of our projects are confidential.

• Once they became an expert on our brand (and our branding), they enjoyed collaborating with our brand design partner, initiating and implementing key marketing deliverables.

• They became fiercely protective of our brand standards, enforcing continuity and quality across all platforms.

• They developed and maintained an annual marketing calendar, populating it with agreed-upon strategic initiatives.

• They were fastidious about timelines and empathetic about extenuating circumstances. But mostly fastidious.

• They were accountable for our marketing budget, and made every dollar stretch just… a… little… farther.

• They were responsible for overseeing and maintaining our website, social media channels, and printed content.

• They helped prepare materials for new business

presentations.

• They had enough photography/videography skills to capture "in progress" photos and videos at worksites.

• They had decent writing skills and an equally decent sense of humor.

• They had impeccable taste.

• They knew their way around Adobe Creative Suite.

• They did some event planning, and looked for opportunities to engage with the community.

• They were happy with their $85,000 salary and excellent benefits.

• They approached their job with creativity, and took initiative. Which leads us to part two.

Part Two: Our last Marketing Manager blew us away with a piece they created to demonstrate their initiative, passion, creativity, and desire to work here.
