Posting Summary
.The Managing Editor of Journals provides management oversight and leadership of the journals division of the University of Vermont Press, a major program of the University of Vermont Libraries. The Managing Editor of Journals collaborates with internal and external constituents, including representatives of scholarly and professional societies, to develop and publish open-access academic journal content for an international, online audience. This position provides significant advisory, management, and production support to journal editorial boards, overseeing editorial processes and providing online production services for up to three journals simultaneously. The Journals Managing Editor also plays a central, collaborative role in strategizing, launching, developing, and publicizing the UVM Press, a digital, open-access publishing initiative with international reach.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related field and two to four years’ related experience. Outstanding English writing, editing, and proofreading skills, including familiarity with commonly used style guides. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated professional competency in communications strategy and consulting, including project management skills. Experience planning, strategizing, creating, and producing web content, including working within online publishing platforms. Proficiency with software and internet technology used in support of open-access publishing functions; familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite; interest in emerging publishing trends and technologies. Knowledge and support of best practice in publishing of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Commitment to online accessibility and inclusivity, including familiarity with conscious style and web accessibility best practices
Desirable Qualifications
Experience establishing new journals from conception to planning to implementation. Experience establishing new editorial boards and recruiting members to the same. Experience identifying scholarly societies and other academic groups interested in establishing new venues for academic literature and leading those groups through the process of establishing those venues.
