The Town of Groton, Connecticut is looking for an experienced and motivated leader to fill the role of Manager of Recreation Services. This position is responsible for complex work in the administration of the Parks and Recreation Department, specifically the supervision and administration of Recreation Services programs, services, facilities, employees, and special events, as well as assisting the Director in the overall administration of the department.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Manager is responsible for coordinating recreation program management: design, development, implementation, evaluation, and analysis of programs and services. This position manages the allocation of resources and provides oversight over the operational budget to ensure programs and services are equitable and available to all residents. The Manager coordinates a community outreach program to increase engagement in active recreation with a focus on inclusion and equity. This position manages the creation of accreditation standards and will maintain ongoing adherence to the standards, as well as policy and procedure. The Manager is responsible for the coordination of major community events including budgeting, event planning, and implementation, as well as the coordination of volunteers, as needed. This position is accountable for ensuring that equal opportunity, diversity, equity and inclusion are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The skills and knowledge required would be acquired with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Administration, or a closely related field, along with five (5) years experience in a Parks and Recreation agency, or a Master’s degree in Recreational Management and three (3) years experience in a recreational agency. A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.

This is an exempt, full-time, forty-hour/ week, non-union position and requires flexibility in working extended hours and/or off hours, including evenings and weekends. Local periodic travel is required. Criminal background, drug testing, driving record, and other applicable background checks are required prior to employment. The entry salary range for this position is dependent upon qualifications; the salary range for the position is: $73,402-$92,854.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE) or Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) required. First Aid and CPR certifications highly desired, with a six-month achievement goal if not certified.
