Position Summary
The Manager of Production serves in several key and critical areas for the Production department. The Manager of Production will assist the Director of Production in the planning, administration, daily operation, maintenance, and general oversight of all production areas for Production, Entertainment, Special Events, and other Guest Programming. The Manager of Production will serve as the Manager on Duty for the department and serve as the Stage Manager/ Venue Coordinator for the various performance venues as required by the schedule. The Manager of Production will assist the Director of Production and Aquarium Leadership in the creation, development, and implementation of new Entertainment/ Guest Programming, as needed, and will participate in the selection, retention, mentoring and evaluation of the Production Team staff.
Responsibilities:
Production Operations:
- Oversee daily operational control and maintenance of all aspects of daily multi-version productions for all production venues, special events and other programming as needed.
- Manage, supervise, and support all show production departments and personnel including lighting, audio, video, staging/scenic, special effects, and wardrobe.
- Prepare weekly schedules for staff with all presentation, rehearsal, maintenance, and meeting call times.
- Maintain attendance records for Production staff.
- Conduct regularly scheduled production meetings with Production, front of house and back of house team members.
- Oversee the organized operation of all backstage areas including stage, wings, dressing rooms, work rooms and storage rooms.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for all departments with department heads.
- Coordinate and support load-ins, turn-a-rounds and strikes as needed/required.
- Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding, and training of all new show production personnel.
- Assist in ordering supplies, tracking orders and budget spent.
- Adhere to all budget parameters and assist in developing operating budgets as needed.
Production Liaison:
- Serve as liaison between Production department and all internal departments to maintain operations & upkeep of productions and theaters.
- Support the New Projects /Construction, Creative Services and other internal departments with the development and creation of new/ upgraded Guest product/ programming as needed.
- Work closely with Animal Husbandry staff on all animal care needs and safety producers for animals, trainers, performers, and technicians.
- Collaborate with Animal Husbandry on all show, rehearsal, and maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with outside consultants, contractors, talent, and technical managers as needed and required.
Maintain Creative Integrity:
- In coordination with management team manage and supervise all rehearsals and re-blocks.
- Work with producers and Directors in creating and maintaining scheduling for brush up rehearsals and re-casting.
- Execute and maintain strict quality control over the producers,’ directors,’ and designers’ original design and creative vision/intent for all productions.
- Work with designers and other creative departments/personnel as required on ongoing development of all productions.
- In addition, the Manager of Production will establish and maintain Standard Operating Guidelines, Policies and Procedures for all venues.
Standard Operating Guidelines:
- Work with Production team to ensure accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive maintenance records are kept.
- Establish contingency and emergency procedures pertinent to all areas of Production facility operations.
Rules & Regulations:
- Enforce and adhere to all rules and regulations of the company including but not limited to those outlined in the employee handbook or other documentation.
- Enforce and adhere to all health and safety standards, and regulations.
- Enforce and adhere to all facility/building codes.
- Enforce and adhere to OSHA regulations and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Minimum (5) years’ experience in live entertainment and special events
- Minimum (3) years in a similar management position
- Possess basic knowledge of all live entertainment, theatrical and special event production, and operations for all departments. Specifically: Stage Management, Scenic/Carpentry, Automation, Special Effects, Props, Video, Audio, Rigging, Lighting and Wardrobe
- Advanced knowledge of Entertainment / Live Show Management, Project Development (from pre-production to closing) and managing overlapping projects/ timelines.
- Understanding of and ability to negotiate contracts with vendors.
- Possess strong office computer skills. Specifically: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
- Ability to kneel, lift, and carry heavy equipment, work in confined spaces and at heights above 25’ and/or on various lifts, booms, and ladders.
- Ability to swim and/or be comfortable in a water/aquatic environment.
