Position Description: Responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all mechanical systems including water, steam, gas, electrical, HVAC, and waste.
Position Responsibilities: 60.00% -
Ins talls, maintains, and repairs all Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical systems and all related equipment.
20.00% - General maintenance duties will include moving furniture, boxes, etc., setting up for and/or working special events, building checks over holidays when buildings are unoccupied, and on-call duty. Will perform routine preventative maintenance (greasing equipment, oiling motors, changing belts, changing air filters, changing light bulbs, etc.). Will be responsible for the programming and setup of the campus energy management system. Attends training sessions required by supervisor.
10.00% - Repairs underground water, gas, sewer, and electrical line breaks. Performs sewer maintenance.
5.00% - Assumes the maintenance supervisory duties of the Mechanical System Supervisor in his absence.
5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Expectations: 1. To have a good working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, & HVAC systems, including the usage of trade-specific equipment and machinery.
2. To work together in a team effort in regards to special tasks or events.
3. To have a basic knowledge and understanding of all trades and equipment in order to perform assigned duties and to ensure that the Facility Management staff member on call can handle emergencies occurring during off duty hours.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education - A two-year college degree, completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school, or three years of equivalent experience.
Interpersonal Skills - Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.
Other Skills -
Two years trade experience is required; general maintenance experience is desired. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and withstand extreme hot and cold, loud noise environments; lift 100 pounds; walk and/or stand for long periods of time, and climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Working in the boiler room requires being exposed to non-weather wet, humid conditions and extreme heat; working inside freezers requires being exposed to extreme non-weather cold. Position also requires work in high, precarious places, exposure to noxious odors, loud noises, and electrical shock. On-call duty on a rotation basis approximately one weekend every month.
Working special events (graduation, Homecoming, etc.,) is required, and 2 nd shift as requested. May be required/requested to travel to off-campus sites as needed.
Physical Requirements: Job requires repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds).
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme outdoor weather conditions, subject to possible physical attack or mob conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
Wages/Other:
The hourly rate for the position is $21.16 to $23.93.
