Maintenance Mechanic Job at Clarios

Geneva, Illinois is home to a fully integrated plant that manufactures batteries used in the automotive and marine industries. As a fully integrated plant, we also decorate our batteries into the final product for our customers. We have been in Geneva since 1960, and today we are one of the largest employers in town with 265 people. We operate six days per week. We are actively involved in our local community and give back through The Salvation Army.
Schedule
  • 2nd Shift
    • 3PM - 11:30PM
  • 3rd Shift
    • 11PM-7:30AM
  • 5-6 days a week (Sunday is the start of the work week)
  • May be required to work overtime and weekends ad needed, and come in early or stay late depending on production demands
Compensation
  • Our maintenance mechanics are compensated with an hourly wage based on interview and experience, plus shift differential

Primary Duties
  • Ability to stand/walk for long period of time
  • Ability to work in hot environment
  • Ability to physically bend, twist and kneel in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced work environment
  • Able to change direction frequently
  • Ability to work as a team and able to take orders to fulfill various projects
Primary Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Repair machines jigs, fixtures, gauges and fit or build replacement parts as needed
  • Adjust machines for production as needed
  • Modify equipment as needed
  • Installation of new equipment including hook up of electrical power, gas, water, air, etc.
  • Maintain and install piping, fittings, valves, gauges, and other controls for hydraulic systems, gas, and air lines
  • Read schematics and blueprints
  • Adjust machines for production when adjustment is beyond the scope of the operator
  • Trouble shoot all industrial electrical components
  • Understand required instruments to troubleshoot electrical circuits and PLC’s
  • Set-up and operate a lathe, milling machines, drill press, grinder, power says, welder, etc. and improvises when equipment is limited
  • Designs and builds small tools and fixtures from sketches or verbal instructions
  • Ability to plan and lay out work, determines accurate and efficient methods and diagnoses while correcting difficulties to minimize production interruptions
Required Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math, reading and writing skills
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints
  • Minimum of 4 years of verifiable working experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical (480v), and preventive maintenance in a manufacturing or similar industry
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Ability to come in early or stay late depending on production demands
  • Must be able to wear required PPE

Desired Qualifications
  • Secondary Education including technical schools or specialized training
  • Journeyman’s Card or ability to obtain one
