The Machine Shop Manager will direct and manage the day-to-day Machining Operations. The Shop Manager is responsible for driving labor efficiency, lean practices, and safe production operations.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Develop and lead Machining Team.
  • Create a culture that fosters continuous improvement, excellence, and accountability.
  • Ensure scalability of the teams’ capabilities.
  • Ensure the team has the skills, tools, and structure to support company needs.
  • Provide mentorship and development opportunities for direct reports that will allow everyone’s potential to be improved and used effectively.
  • Build an organizational development strategy that will drive the necessary skills and competencies in the workforce to meet external and internal customer requirements.
  • Direct Machining activities to continually meet or exceed organizational objectives including production goals, budget efficiency, schedule attainment, indirect labor objectives, and quality and safety objectives.
  • Work closely with the Production Planner / Schedulers to ensure Machining operation schedules are optimal and achievable.
  • Properly schedule and load balance work to optimally achieve schedules and budgets.
  • Foster an environment of Employee Engagement by promoting the company’s continuous improvement culture, collaboration, respect, and a sense of urgency.
  • Direct responsibility for the effective management of Machining labor budgets including wages, overtime, absorption, indirect labor costs, etc.
  • Direct responsibility for the effective management of the Machining expense budget.
  • In conjunction with the Plant Manager and Continuous Improvement Manager, drive process improvements, increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Build a world-class Machining Team by establishing a performance-based culture around accountability and operational excellence.
  • Promote plant safety, cleanliness, and housekeeping. Ensure a safe working environment exists consistent with OSHA and safety equipment is maintained and effectively used.
  • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that drive Machining Operations.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly manage employees of the Machining Operations. Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Mentor, develop, and train.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and performance of employees.
  • Ensure ongoing feedback to employees and that semi-annual/annual Performance Reviews are conducted.
  • Manage the hiring, promotion, disciplinary action, and termination of employees.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or other technical discipline preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in machining and machine tool concepts
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • Experience in CNC programming a plus
  • Experience with lean manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
