Job Summary: Operates and sets up various equipment including CNC. Perform such work consistent with the company mission and values and produces a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations by maintaining Quality and Safety procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position. A safety-sensitive position has been defined as one where the employee's responsibilities impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers, and/or the public (in this case the end-user of our product). All production and production support positions fall into this category.

• Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening test
• Able to use standard fabrication tools and perform advanced level layout
• Able to train Machine Operators and lead a small team
• Ability to operate all CNC equipment
• Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, fixtures and other accessories used on various machines
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to follow verbal and written instructions well
• Possess basic math skills that include geometry and algebra to calculate material fabrication
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Regular, reliable and punctual attendance with the ability to work overtime and weekends
• Possess strong sense of urgency
• Can work independently and/or as a cooperative team player
• Willingly takes direction from supervisory and lead personnel
• Adheres to quality procedures and demonstrates strong safety awareness and prevention
• Must be able to safely lift 50lbs

Must possess or be proficient at performing all skills listed below

• Clean and maintain machine, tooling, and parts to maintain equipment in optimal production condition
• Work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries following all safety regulations
• Inspect cutting tools for sharpness and usability
• Observe machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometer and dial caliper. Adjust machine to control part process.
• Inspects “first part”, consults with quality control, and inspect work pieces for out of tolerance machining throughout the production run
• Works independently to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and perform quality assurance checks of our work
• Exercises special care to ensure the machine is running correctly and CNC equipment setup requirements are always followed
• Must have advanced Crane and Forklift certification
• Able to post edits to CNC program to fine tune process for optimum performance
• Operate multiple pieces of equipment without errors and without supervision
• Must be able to diagnose machine errors and perform scheduled maintenance of equipment as outlined on the check off lists provided
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash scrap removal, and other production related tasks
• Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients, and supervisors
• Performs daily cleaning and maintenance of area.
• Works in a safe and productive manner.

In addition to the above – in order to meet the qualifications of the A Class Machine Operator, you must be able to:

• Support the Crystal Steel Lean Initiative through active engagement and participation in continuous process improvement projects based in Lean Manufacturing Principles
• Assist in the collection of data, participate in RIE workshops and contribute to the implementation of solutions, replicate successful improvements, share lessons learned and provide feedback on opportunities for change that will further the continuous improvement process.
