This position will be accountable for logistics for the Central Multi Market through daily management of inbound, intercompany and outbound freight. They will work in conjunction with Corporate Logistics on fleet utilization improvements and efficiency gains to achieve transportation savings and service improvements for Ryerson. The position will also be required to assist Corporate Logistics in the implementation and achievement of the overall transportation strategy of Ryerson while working within identified best practices.

Description of Job/Tasks:
Essential functions: Primary responsibility is to support fleet operations to deliver exceptional on-time service to the customer while optimizing the freight methods used. Areas of responsibility will include:
  • Increased fleet utilization through increased lbs./trip, stops/trip while traveling minimum miles
  • Geographically centralized load building
  • Geographically centralized dynamic routing of fleet through use of a Transportation Management System
  • Minimizing logistic expenses, while striving for improved service
  • Reduction of empty miles through backhaul opportunities
  • Efficient truck loading and unloading times to meet best practice standards
  • Ryerson operated equipment management
  • Transportation accident management and investigation
  • Proper documentation of all required logistics paperwork
  • KPI reporting on transportation activity
  • Compliance to Ryerson policies and procedures
  • Conflict resolution with customers and suppliers
  • Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
• High School Diploma / GED required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Prior logistics experience preferred
  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations
  • MS Office software skills such as Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Problem solving skills
  • Root cause analysis skills with corrective action follow-up
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and multiple tasks
  • Track record of self-motivated, results-orientated team player
  • Customer focused

Experience Required: 1 - 3 Years

Education Required: GED
